Residents at The Fairfax are encouraged to get involved and meet their neighbors. Sixteen residents serve on the elected Resident Council, meeting to discuss a variety of community concerns and activities. Specific areas of Council interest include income, expenditures and other financial matters as they apply to The Fairfax community. The Council also makes decisions regarding community policies, programs, facilities, and services.

Resident Council elections take place at The Fairfax every June. Each resident building elects two Council members. These members are elected for two-year terms and may succeed themselves in office. The Council chooses its own Chairman and Vice Chairman. The Council meets independently monthly and meets with The Fairfax team quarterly.
