Sample Activities

The following descriptions of activities are just a few examples of things you might see in a Sunrise Senior Living Community.  Because our activity programs are tailored to our residents, each community’s calendar will vary according to the individual preferences of the residents who live there.

Resident Clubs
(Bridge Club, Men’s Club, Quilting Club, Decorating Club, Travel Club) - Hosted by residents, clubs encourage independence and celebrate the individuality and diverse interests of our residents.

Spiritual Faith Activities
(bible study, trips to places of worship, hymnal singing, visits from local clergy and Sunday school classes)  - For residents whose faith brings comfort and joy, we offer opportunities to practice and strengthen that faith through worship both in and outside our Sunrise community.

Trips and Outings
(lunch bunch, trips to the movies, museums, theater, scenic drives, shopping) - Small and large group outings give residents a delightful opportunity to socialize outside of their Sunrise community and experience a variety of sights, sounds, and tastes!

Physical/Fitness Activities
(walking, stretches, chair exercise, balloon volleyball, darts) - Offered daily, these activities help residents maintain and improve mobility and physical wellness through enjoyable activities specifically designed to meet their needs.

Musical Activities
(sing-a-longs, dancing, name that tune, live entertainment) - A familiar and universal language, music nurtures the spirit, reminds us of “the good old days,” and brightens our days.

Fine Arts
(painting, drawing. sculpting, crafts, and collages) - These activities are designed to give residents an opportunity to exercise their artistic creativity and individuality through a variety of venues.

Cognitive/Intellectual Activities
(educational programs, current event discussions, cards, games) - Many of our residents enjoy learning, discussing their thoughts and opinions, playing games, and solving puzzles.  These activities provide an excellent forum to support mental awareness and cognition.

Nature/Outdoor Activities
(gardening, strolls in the park, nature walks, bird watching, picnics) - Breathing fresh air, feeling a warm breeze against your cheek, and enjoying the beauty of nature each contribute toward a positive outlook and a healthy spirit.

Reminiscing Activities
(sharing photos, memory-filled discussions, afternoon socials) - Each of our residents has his or her own rich and interesting life experiences and memories.  These activities encourage our residents to explore a sense of self and life review through socialization.

Sensory Enjoyment Activities
(bread baking, hand and foot massage, meaningful songs, stroking a favorite pet) - Our senses help to trigger pleasant and meaningful memories.  These activities invigorate the senses and provide residents with a feeling of relaxation and comfort.

Inter-generational Activities
(partnerships with local school children, visits from girl/boy scout troops) - For many of our residents, there is nothing more pleasurable than hearing the laughter of a child as they discover the treasures from the toy box found in every Sunrise home.

Life Skill Activities
(cooking, helping address invitations, folding napkins alongside a friend) - Many residents prefer to participate in activities in which they can contribute their long time talents and abilities. Life Skill activities are tailored to each resident, offering them the opportunity to do just that.

Seasonal/Theme Events
(holiday parties, cookouts, dances, theme socials) - Most everyone enjoys celebrating the season at hand or learning about various cultures. Our residents are encouraged to contribute their ideas and talents in the planning and decorating for these events and celebrations.

Family Get-togethers
(family nights, brunches, potlucks, and parties) - Families and friends of our residents are welcome and invited to our Sunrise communities any time, especially when we plan a “soiree” in their honor!
