Sue Coppola, RN, BS, CHC, joined Sunrise Senior Living in 2015 as senior vice president of Care. In her role as Chief Clinical Officer, Sue oversees all care-related programs and policies impacting Sunrise’s communities. This includes the management of Clinical Operations, Quality and Systems Improvement, Nutrition and Dining departments for Sunrise in addition to the implementation of electronic health records.
With more than 25 years of leadership experience in healthcare, Sue possesses a wealth of expertise in operations, clinical and performance improvement, regulatory and compliance which provides a comprehensive and systematic approach that results in measurable outcomes across the business.
Sue previously served as chief compliance officer/senior vice president, Compliance, for Emeritus Senior Living. Previous roles include chief clinical officer for both Sun Healthcare Group and Harborside Healthcare, leading healthcare services companies, in addition to various nursing and management positions in Boston-area hospitals, and healthcare consulting manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers.
Sue began her career as an intensive care and emergency room nurse before moving to developing and implementing care management programs for a large HMO insurer and then a hospital. She was first drawn to senior care after having an opportunity to work with a skilled nursing provider, where she was able to focus on her love for seniors and dedicate her time to making an impactful difference to the quality of lives of seniors as well as the regulatory environment and landscape of healthcare.
Sue is a member of the Healthcare Compliance Association, Board of Care and Compliance for Senior Care and the Nurse Executive Committee for Senior Care. She is also active in various associations and committees that promote quality of life and choice for seniors. She’s passionate about working to balance regulations, quality care for seniors and defining outcomes that allow for resident choice.
