Executive Director

"After 25 years in hospitality leading hotel teams, I made the transition to Senior living with the express intention to apply the skills I learned in serving guests to provide the framework for managing senior living communities. I have been with Sunrise La Costa since January 2020, and I am proud of the team we have built. We challenge each other to think outside the proverbial box to find ways to say yes to our residents and families.

In my leisure time, I train for triathlon, attend my two children’s sporting events, and travel with my wife Kelly."

Peggy White

Director of Sales

"It was only because of my strong desire to be a part of something bigger than myself that I decided to launch a new career after 26 years in resort hospitality sales. I could have never imagined the rewards from helping families decipher their best option for their family’s care needs. I am grateful for the bonds I have developed with families, our team, as well as with my daughter. She had helped me understand the meaning of giving back when she volunteered in senior communities in Colorado which ignited my interest in senior living.

I enjoy beachcombing, gardening, classic cars, board games and playing cards (including Rummy 500)."

Maurene Cullins

Director of Sales

"I began my professional career working in hospitality for over 20 years with brands including Marriott, Hilton and IHG. I have personal experience with my own family members moving into memory care, and I am blessed to help others with deciding on next steps for themselves and loved ones. I love that the people I work with every day at Sunrise La Costa share my passion for serving seniors!

In my personal time, I love going to concerts and enjoy traveling with my husband Mitch, but our favorite family pastime is hitting the beach with our daughter Ruby."

Elizabeth Smith, RN, BSN

Resident Care Coordinator

"I am a Registered Nurse with vast clinical experience in the field of maternity, neurology, cardiology, oncology surgery, and geriatrics. I grew up on the East Coast and was a nurse at The Johns Hopkins Hospital prior to transitioning to Sunrise in February of 2021. I love leading the wellness team and providing the best care to our senior community.

In my leisure time, I am a busy mom enjoying time with my children. You can often find us outside enjoying the beautiful San Diego weather."

Christian Miciano

Dining Services Coordinator

"I come from a family of cooks, and cooking has always been in my life since I was kid. Spending countless hours in the kitchen with my grandmother and mother growing up was the start of my passion for all things culinary. I attended and graduated The Art Institute of California San Diego with an Associates Degree in Culinary Arts in 2006, and I decided to further my education and graduated The University of Phoenix with a Bachelors Degree in Business Management in 2015.

I have worked in different facets of the culinary industry including restaurants, hotels, and country clubs, but Senior Living is truly where my heart is. I have been part of the Sunrise Senior Living family since 2015 and enjoy every second of it. My favorite meal to cook is mocha braised beef short ribs with a cheesy polenta. During my time off, I enjoy spending it with my wife and three children."

Margaret Levine

Business Office Coordinator

I have been with Sunrise since 2020, and am delighted to be a part of such a dynamic and customer service oriented team. With over 30 years in accounting I decided to go in a different direction in my career and went on to receive my MBA and Masters in Human Resource Management. In my role as Business Office Coordinator I support the community with billing, training and human resources tasks. Since 2017 I have been down in the San Diego area to be closer to some family. I am originally from Northern California (SF Bay Area)."

karen la villeKaren La Ville

Assisted Living Coordinator

"I recently came from another Sunrise community after 20+ years of experience in senior living. I love that when I leave the community every day, I walk away knowing I have made a difference in someone’s life. I set an example by raising my two sons in the industry, and my husband worked in a retirement community for 23 years.

I am a huge cat lover with 9 cats at home, all of them rescues. I have dedicated myself to my two boys who are the light of my life. I enjoy horseback riding and my Ford Mustang GT."

laura bodrogiLaura Bodrogi

Reminiscence Coordinator

"I grew up on a dairy farm in a small Ohio town. My husband and I relocated to San Diego in 2011 with our four children. I began my nursing career in 1996 in a skilled nursing facility and enjoyed every moment learning from those I cared for. I then spent several years working in the field of Dermatology and Mohs Micrographic Surgery. After taking a few years off to raise my young family, I wished to return to an area of nursing that had made a profound impact on not only my career, but my life: caring for the elderly.

I am so excited to be a part of the Sunrise community and so humbled to be entrusted with the care of this amazing generation."

"My interest in the culinary arts started when I was expected to help our family business butchering pigs to distribute. The unsold meat went to our little eatery that our family ran and I was enlisted to help in the kitchen after school learning basic skills from cutting and preparation and eventually cooking at the age of 15. I loved watching chef competition shows on the Food Network and it became a way to educate myself in how to operate in a kitchen. I was a self-taught cook when I began, but now I have learned from talented chefs with whom I have worked for. I have been a part of Sunrise Senior Living since 2017 and I enjoy every day of it. One of my favorite meals to cook at Sunrise is the Thanksgiving meal consisting of comfort foods like roasted turkey, stuffing, and green bean casserole. The culinary experience of our residents is my passion and primary concern. My favorite dish to cook for my family is braised beef noodle soup and stir fried noodles.

In my spare time,  I love watching chef competition shows on the Food Network."

Community Pet

Lambo is the newest member of the Sunrise at La Costa team. He came to us as a rescue kitten, after showing up on a resident family member’s door step. After they nursed him to health, Kendra decided he would be the perfect fit for our Reminiscence neighborhood. He spends his days playing with the residents, chasing his many toys, and lounging along the windowsills with the breeze coming in. You might even catch him sitting in the Reminiscence office, making himself comfortable in Kendra’s desk chair! He is as sweet as can be, and he keeps the neighborhood lively with his vibrant kitten energy!
