“I began my career as a licensed practical nurse working at a local hospital. After continuing my education, I transitioned to Marriott Senior Living Community, which is now known as The Fairfax, a Sunrise Senior Living community. Through obtaining a passion in this field, I continued to work hard in order to take on a more administrative role here at Sunrise. In 2016, I was given the opportunity to serve as senior executive director, and I am very excited to continue living out my passion by serving our residents and living out the Sunrise mission.
My favorite part of my job here at Sunrise is the ability to change the lives of residents in need—physically or emotionally. I love being able to bring them joy and comfort at this point of their lives. I am so proud to work for a company whose mission aligns so closely with my passion for seniors.
In my spare time, I enjoy outdoor activities and nature itself! My family and I frequently escape to the West Virginia Mountains with our four wheeler and enjoy camping and each other’s company.”
“I have worked at Sunrise since 2013. This industry has been a part of my life since I started out in my hometown of Roanoke, Virginia, working in the local nursing home serving water to residents. I decided that I wanted to pursue a career in this field, so I received my degree in health science with a concentration in assisted living administration while working as a concierge at a local CCRC. When I graduated, I worked as an activities assistant, which led me to my role in sales. Before receiving the opportunity to join the Sunrise at Silas Burke House team, I worked at our Leesburg and Hunter Mill communities.
My favorite part of my job is getting to help families with their transition to assisted living. I have always enjoyed working with people but have been particularly drawn to seniors. Sitting down with a family who has never been into an assisted living and acting as a resource is the most rewarding part of what I do. I love the relationships I get to build with families, residents, and team members. I have built long-lasting relationships in each of the communities I have supported. We are all in the Sunrise family, and you’ll always feel welcome when visiting a Sunrise.
I enjoy traveling in my spare time. My sisters live in San Francisco and Houston, so we love to get together any time we can! During the weekends, I love to go for bike rides on the trails in Arlington and love cheering on the Capitals.”
"I have been with Sunrise since June of 2014. Before Sunrise, I had experience in working s a Sales Assistant, Tennis Instructor, Manager, Buyer, and Realtor. I find that through all of my many professions that I enjoy helping and working with people.
My favorite part of my job is working with families and being a resource to them as they make one of the most important decisions in life. The best part of working at Sunrise is that I can call our community my home away from home with all of the friendships I've made with residents, families and team members.
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, gardening, decorating, traveling, spending time with my friends & family, and being a mother to my two children."
"I started working for Sunrise in October of 2017 but have been in the industry since 2007. When I was in high school, I started working in skilled nursing and have worked in different roles. I started out as a concierge, worked in activities, then moved on to medical records and worked in admissions before joining Sunrise. I have always enjoyed learning different roles and gaining new experiences.
I have always had a close relationship with my grandmother and that has guided my career path. My favorite part about working in senior housing is connecting with residents and families. I enjoy bringing a smile to residents’ faces and am always here to support them on their bad days.
Sunrise does a great job of investing time in their employees’ training. Although I have been in the industry for a while, I am always soaking up new information. Sunrise has a great support system, and if I have a question, I am always able to reach out to sister communities or regional team members. Sunrise has great opportunities for growth, and I have learned so much since I started.
When I’m not working with families at Sunrise, I enjoy spending time with my nephew. I also enjoy visiting the local wineries with my friends, and I love to go to 80's concerts in Washington D.C."
"I started with Sunrise in 2017. Previously, I worked at The Tribute at Heritage Village in Gainesville, VA as the Memory Care Coordinator which is very similar role to this position. Additionally, I worked for the Alzheimer’s Association (National Capital Area chapter) for many years in various roles: answering the 24/7 Helpline, providing family consultations, providing professional training, and overseeing/training support groups. Lastly, I worked with the Eastern NC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association where I developed training programs and trained with Teepa Snow.
My favorite part of my job, if I had to choose, would be getting to know and spending time with our residents. My favorite part of working for Sunrise is the fact that it is a company that is well established and values training and development. I look forward to upholding the mission, core values, and principles that is Sunrise.
In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my husband of over 25 years and three daughters. I also love running, thrift shopping, being involved in my church, serving on my local Young Life Committee, and enjoying good food and wine."
"I have been with Sunrise since 2003. I originally started off in the payroll department when the office was located in Fairfax Circle, and after, I transferred to the purchasing department. Then, I began working as a Business Office Coordinator at Sunrise at Hunter Mill in February 2007. Now, I have come to Sunrise at Silas Burke House in September 2017 to be a part of this brand new community.
My favorite part of my job here is the relationships you gain while working with the team members and residents and learning about their different backgrounds. The best part of working at Sunrise is the time that I am able to spend interacting with the residents each day.
In my spare time, I like watching my oldest daughter play college solftball for CNU and my younger daughter at her chorus events. I love spending time with my family and my two black labs, especially at the beach."
"I graduated in Marketing and Advertising in 2008, and since then, I have been working in the sports and entertainment industry. Two of my biggest professional achievements were working for the FIFA World Cup (2014) and the Olympic Games (2016), both in Brazil.
Since I was a kid I always wanted to work with seniors, and now that I am part of this family at Sunrise, I have the opportunity of bringing all my experience and use that to help our residents.
Everyone likes to have fun! I joined Sunrise in 2017 to fulfill our resident’s mind, body and spirit! While understanding all their needs, we tailor the activities according to their life experiences and what they most love to do. It thrills me to see their happiness and excitement while having fun and filling their life with purpose.
In my spare time, I like watching movies, listening to podcasts, and enjoying time with my dog, a very cute black-and-white Shih Tzu. I love going out for dinner and karaoke with my friends.
It is an honor to be part of this big family and work together to champion quality life for all our residents!"
"I have just recently joined the Sunrise team in 2017. I come into this role with prior experience in home healthcare delivering similar job responsibilities.
My favorite part of my job is the ability to work with team members to provide quality services that focus on resident-centered care, which in turn, provides residents with quality of life. The best part of working at Sunrise is the unfeigned feeling of embraced diversity with team members working towards one mission, "to champion the quality of life for all seniors".
In my spare time, I enjoy reading a good book on healthcare and listening to classical music. My future goal is to travel to Paris and see the Eiffel Tower."
