Katie is the recipient of the 2019 MASS-ALA Executive Director Leadership Award
Katie began her career with Sunrise at our Gardner Park community in November of 2007. She has a strong passion for our aging population and takes great pride in the community that she serves.
Katie’s favorite Sunrise Principle of Service is Encouraging Independence. “Our residents are giving up so much when they decide to transition into assisted living, whether it be leaving their lifelong homes or losing a spouse,” Katie said. “We provide the opportunity to remain as independent as safely possible while aging in place gracefully.”
"I started with Sunrise in December 2019. I have worked in adult healthcare for ten years; I spent the last 5 working in skilled nursing and rehabilitation settings. My favorite part of my job is helping families navigate and understand the complicated and often overwhelming healthcare and senior living system. Moving a loved one is a decision no family wants to make, so I like to take as much of the burden off them as possible by listening closely to their story and offering a path to meet their unique needs the best I can.
The best part of working at Sunrise is the sense of community that is created between the residents and the staff. Caring for our residents is more than just a job, it is a privilege. I love getting to know as many residents’ stories as possible.
In my free time, I make music and collect rare vinyl records. I frequently travel, hike, and practice photography."
"I have worked in senior living for four years and have been in my current role since September of 2019.
My favorite part of the job is being able to go from strangers to friends to family with the resident’s and their family members that I get to know and love. There’s no better feeling than being able to put a smile on a resident’s face, and there is no greater privilege than being able to learn from each and every resident every day.
The best part of working at Sunrise is knowing that my passion for making a difference in as many lives as possible is the core of our mission statement; “to champion the quality of life for all seniors”.
Outside of work, I love to spend time with my family and most importantly, my two grandmother’s (Yia Yia and Nonna) that I am fortunate enough to still have at ages 93 and 96."
"I am a lover and a fighter when it comes to finding a cure for Alzheimer’s disease. I have been working as a Reminiscence Coordinator at Sunrise for four years and with residents who have Alzheimer’s disease for twenty. It is a true honor to be part of each resident’s history/ time line. I am a student for life, I have learned so much from shared life experiences and human nature. The key in navigating through the progression of this disease is providing support for all the people involved which includes residents, families and my team. Every day is a new opportunity to help bring sunshine to someone’s life by putting a smile on his or her face."
