"My journey to senior care starts with my parents. My mom was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis in 1983 and my family has been taking care of her through the disease process since. During that time, I have seen the care provided to my mom by both skilled and respite communities for short term rehabilitation stays and felt that I could contribute to helping seniors live happier and healthier lives when they need it. My property management skills were learned through managing Las Vegas resorts, coupled with my personal knowledge of being a caregiver, provide me with a different insight on how to manage our community for the betterment of our residents. I feel so lucky to have found Sunrise, whose principles so well matched those of my family when we looked for help with my mom. I look forward to helping you and your family with your care needs at Sunrise of Crystal Lake."

"To say that I love what I do would be an understatement.  Working with seniors and their families has been the most fulfilling work that I have ever done.  Since 2015, I have been privileged to work in this field. There are no words to describe how great it feels to help a family through the process of making a life changing decision to move their loved one here to our community.  I am so proud to work for Sunrise-it is truly my home away from home. Our residents have taught me humility, grace, and, a better understanding of what it means to live a life with purpose.  Every day I make it my goal to make a difference in their lives and give back as much to them as they give to me."

Activity and Volunteer Coordinator

"This job has become a big part of my life. I love to come to work, in what I call the best job of all- activities!  I am the mother of 4 daughters. They all work professionally, either behind the scenes, or performing on the stage.  That means that they all share my joy of music, ballet, art and theater. I love to share that with our residents. On my days off, I can be found loving on my two boxer dogs, riding my bike on long adventures, or reading books that are on the “bestseller list”. I also love to create customized art as a hobby. I enjoy sharing my creativity with our residents in all mediums, and most of all, I love to laugh.  I feel so rewarded to have a job that I love so much!"

Resident Care Director

In 2014, I joined Sunrise as a Care Manager. I worked as a care manager throughout nursing school then transitioned into the role of a nurse a few years later. I most recently got promoted to the Resident Care Director role. Being able to use my creativity and flexibility day to day to help meet the ever changing needs of the residents at Sunrise is my favorite part of my job. Being at one of the smaller Sunrise communities allows me to spend extra time with families, residents, and the care team, which in turn helps our team to produce and provide excellent personalized care. There is not usually a day that is the same as the last, which helps me to continue to nurture my understanding of caring for individuals with memory loss, dementia and Alzheimer’s. The best part of working for Sunrise is having a great team of people not only in Barrington but company-wide who are dedicated to championing the quality of life for all seniors. When I’m not at work, I like to spend time with my family - my husband, step-daughters who are 13 and 14, and our 2 dogs.

Resident Care Coordinator

"I joined the Sunrise team in 2015 as a part time Designated Care Manager. My background is in Early Childhood Education and school administration. My transition to senior care came after caring for my father in our home during his battle with lung cancer. During this journey we were blessed to have had the support of a number of compassionate and caring individuals in the hospice and senior health care field. After the passing of my father I felt a deep sense of calling and a desire to give back.

Throughout my tenure at Sunrise I have dedicated myself to this mission. The training, continuing education, and hands on experience that I received at Sunrise lead to my promotion to the Assisted Living Coordinator position in 2016 and in 2017 I was given the opportunity to move into the Resident Care Coordinator role and take on the responsibility of working with our Memory Care residents as well. 

Providing excellent care, supporting our seniors and their loved ones, and developing and training the front line care team at has been my honor and my passion. My personal experiences with my own father have provided me with a deep sense of empathy and understanding that I believe allows me to truly connect with our families at Sunrise. I love working alongside our team and with our residents to experience joy in everyday moments at our community.

My husband and I live in Woodstock. We have four wonderful grown children and a beautiful daughter-in-law. We love the outdoors, hiking, listening to and performing Bluegrass music, and college football. ROLL TIDE!"

Sunrise of Crystal Lake Team Member Deena “I have been with Sunrise since 2013. Previously, I managed a coffee shop and over the years refined my love of coffee. Our Sunrise AVC was a customer and she encouraged me to join the Sunrise team, and I'm so thankful she did. I started in the dining room, but during my time here I've joined the concierge team and the marketing team as a sales assistant. I love having different roles at work—it brings opportunities to meet new people and family members and stay connected to the residents. It brightens my day, and I hope it brightens theirs as well.

If I'm not at work, I'm at home chasing my beautiful little boy. He keeps my husband and I on the move, so I usually have a coffee in hand and am always on the lookout for the next cup.”

“I was a flight attendant for United Airlines for 18 years, and resigned to stay home and raise my children. Sunrise is my first job back in the workforce. It’s been a wonderful experience, not only for me, but for my family. My children love to come visit with the residents any chance they get. This job has given me more than words can say. Sunrise—the residents and the employees—become part of your extended family!”

Business Office Coordinator 

"My original background is Sales, Business Banking and Mortgages. My passion grew in the healthcare industry when my dad was diagnosed with a terminal illness.  During the last few years of his life, I spent a lot of time in skilled nursing facilities and loved the bond I formed with the patients and their families. I always felt rewarded and accomplished at the end of the day- whether it was as simple as making someone smile or giving them a hug. I realized very quickly that I have a passion for the elderly and that’s where my heart belongs. 

As a Business Office Coordinator, I have the honor of working closely with our community families, residents, and our amazing team members. The most favorite part of my job is spending time with our residents and assisting their families.   

My family is very important to me. I am fortunate to be able to spend time with my mom on a regular basis. My husband and I have 2 wonderful boys. Our older son is a college student and our younger son is in high school. In my spare time I enjoy attending their school functions as well as bike riding."
