Sunrise of Gahanna - Testimonials:

"I moved to Sunrise 3 years ago and am glad I did! I came from North Carolina after my wife passed away to be closer to my daughter. She did the research and assured me I would be happy here. What do I like about living at Sunrise?

  1. Onsite nurses that handle my medications and keep me on track. I don’t have to remember when to take them or how much.
  2. The staff here takes a personal interest in me and my well-being, and works at keeping everyone here happy AND safe!
  3. The food is good! I like how we are given choices every day and if I don’t find anything of interest, I can always get a hot dog or hamburger.
  4. Everyone here is respectful of the residents.
  5. Yolanda organizes fun and interesting programs all the time. My favorites are when the zoo brings in animals and the old-time singers come in. The Irish dancers are great, too.
  6. I learned about Honor Flights from Sunrise and was able to make the trip a few years ago. Another one of Yolanda’s programs!
  7. I am able to have bird feeders outside my window – watching the squirrels and birds is a favorite way to pass the time.
  8. I get my hair washed and cut on Thursdays here – it is really nice to have that service available. No need to leave the building!
  9. If I have a problem or need something done in my room Jonathon attends to it or has someone come in to fix it.
  10. Management takes an interest in my daily activities and visits with me to keep informed about my life.

I always feel special! I enjoy living here and know I am a valued resident. I feel it every day!" - George S., Resident

"I'm taking care of my father along with my own family. We needed to take a vacation and normally would employ other family members to assist with looking after my father but during this time, all were busy. I reached out to Sunrise Respite care. After meeting with their staff and visiting the facility, I was comfortable with using this option during my vacation. The staff did an EXCELLENT job of making sure he had daily activities, bathed, and his room kept clean. I was so impressed with how detailed the staff adhered to my plan for him during his brief stay. It's always hard to relinquish a family member to a facility, but in this case Sunrise was like home for him during his stay. I highly recommend the Gahanna Sunrise location for anyone looking for senior assistance or memory care. Your family member will be in good hands." - Tim P., Resident's son

"My best experience at Sunrise of Gahanna was the move-in and transition process I went through with my mom. When my sisters and I had to make the difficult decision of moving our mother from her home to assisted living I was concerned about the actual move-in because she was very angry and reluctant to leave her home. My sisters and I felt very confident Sunrise was the perfect place for her because of the smaller homelike setting along with heightened memory support, yet I was worried about how the move-in would go and how she’d adjust. The team went above and beyond during her initial days and weeks of transition. They gave her all the support and special attention she needed. They also gave me the support I needed while placing a parent in a new setting. It is truly amazing how quickly my mom adjusted to her new life and how well she is doing! She’s never been happier and it’s thanks to what Sunrise is doing so well! Every time I visit and see my mom’s smile I am reassured that Sunrise was the best decision ever. I am so grateful that the Sunrise of Gahanna team is providing excellence in senior care!" - Irene L., Resident's daughter

"I’m so thankful I found Sunrise of Gahanna while searching for an assisted living facility for my husband who has advanced Parkinson’s disease with complications.  I can’t say enough about the caring staff who take interest in each resident’s life and provide the best care for them. Many of the staff are long- term employees who have a passion for the work they do there. You won’t find a high turnover rate for Sunrise which makes such a difference in the level of care. The facility itself  has a very homey and welcoming feel from the minute you walk in the door.  From the smell of fresh baked cookies and popcorn to the friendly receptionist that greets you, it just feels like home. My husband is happy at Sunrise of Gahanna  and I’m happy because I know he is in good hands." - Resident's wife

'It is with great pleasure to write this note with accolades for Sunrise of Gahanna. My dad, George, is a resident there – almost 3 years now!  He was diagnosed with colon cancer and had complications after surgery.  He went into rehab and then to a retirement cottage except he wasn’t thriving, dementia was setting in so I moved him to Ohio. Dad was 136 pounds upon arrival and looked like he was on his last leg. With the care and attention he received from Sunrise he is now back from the dead and at his normal weight of 196 pounds! More than his physical recovery, his emotional and mental health came back as well! He is treated with respect, dignity, and interest. All of the staff know his name, make sure they visit with him and take an interest in his daily life. It isn’t just about the care they give to the residents, Sunrise embraces the families of the residents as well and I think of them as extended family. We all care about my dad and they care about me, too. Have no qualms or worries about placing your loved one here. They are in good hands. "– Resident's daughter

"Sunrise of Gahanna is full of such caring individuals who are committed to making the residents’ lives better. It feels so much like a family. The staff all really care and spend time to get to know the residents. Based on the conversations I’ve had with caregivers and other staff I can see they’ve had conversations with my Mom and really listened to her stories. It’s unbelievable how much they’ve learned about her and her life. My mom enjoys her time participating in all the daily activities that are planned. She was very hesitant about leaving her home but no longer could live alone with dementia progressing. With the staff’s caring attitude and special attention she quickly adjusted and truly seems so happy and well cared for. The focus is on the most important thing, providing a caring comfortable safe place for our loved ones and making me feel like I’ve made the absolute best decision in choosing a place for my Mom." – Resident's daughter

“Wonderful! Mother is happy!” – Resident’s child

“The management is very good and the caregivers overall, do a good job. I love that [the Life Enrichment manager] is there to interact with my father and the other residents; she does a wonderful job.” – Resident’s child

"I can't say enough good things about Sunrise of Gahanna. They helped me with the admission process and we're very understanding and helpful with a difficult time. What was even better is how well Mom responded to moving into the facility. I was so relieved. I am so glad that she is there." – Resident's daughter

"As a hospital CEO, I obviously have greater insight on healthcare facilities and operations than the average person. I toured/interviewed four (4) Assisted Living Facilities last year in anticipation of my mother needing this type of service. Sunrise was my number 1 choice by far. Reasons include: 1) Very nice physical plan including its cleanliness. 2) Extensive interviews with all of the leadership. 3) Longevity of the leadership (little to no turnover). 4) My personal/professional opinions of JoAnn Micciulla, the Executive Director of Sunrise, were of the highest caliber. 5) Basically, a "no-hassle" experience in the move-in process; in fact, the Sunrise staff were very helpful in assisting my sister "individualize" my mother's room for her comfort. 6) The VERY "home-like" atmosphere of Sunrise. 7) The personable yet professional personalities of the staff. Thank you for this opportunity to give my feedback re Sunrise and my experience with transitioning my mother there." – Resident's son

"For the past 10 months my father has been a resident at Sunrise Senior Living - memory care. I am so pleased with how well it's working out for both of us. The staff, from director to the maintenance team are all onboard with the mission priority:patient care. I can count on the Sunrise team to do their best to making my father's stay comfortable, safe, active, and engaging." - Resident's child
