"I joined the Sunrise Family in May, 2018. I’ve been an advocate for the geriatric population and involved in healthcare for well over 10 years. I’ve been in the long term care sector for the past four years where I was the Administrator for a privately owned community in Georgia.
The favorite part about my job is that it’s no longer a job. I am doing what I truly love and enjoy, which is striving to deliver an optimal experience in assisted living for both my residents and their families.
The best part of working at Sunrise is the residents. Each day is a new day and a new beginning to create something great and bring a smile to their faces.
In my spare time, I appreciate spending time with both my family and friends. My two nephews, Landon Allen and Cohen Lee are my heartbeats. I also like to decorate and travel while trying out new eateries."
I began working in the senior living industry as a Director of Sales & Marketing in the Blacksburg/Roanoke area in early 2016. I joined Sunrise in April, 2019. Prior to that, I lived in Northern VA for 30 years where I first began my sales and marketing career in the new homes/builder industry as well as the multi-family housing industry. My many years’ experience helping families determine their perfect home for their particular needs made the transition into senior living a very easy, successful and rewarding one.
Helping families thru the decision-making process, understanding the options available to them, being a resource and a helping hand, and then experiencing their smiles and sighs of relief as they see their loved one begin to thrive in our community are the favorite parts of my job.
The best part of working for Sunrise is the sincere commitment to treat all residents (as well as team members) as individuals deserving of respect and dignity.
In my spare time I enjoy watching Netflix movies, cheering on the Pittsburgh Steelers, reading, listening to music, tending to my many houseplants and exploring new restaurants and vineyards in the area.
"I have worked for Sunrise since July of 2018. I was a care giver for 6 years and was promoted to Resident Services Coordinator when I was living in California.
My favorite part of this job is listening to our residents’ stories and experiences that they have had throughout their life. The best part of working here at Sunrise is being surrounded by people that truly want to make a difference in our residents' lives.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and cooking for my family."
"I started in my new role on September 20, 2019. Prior to this role, I entered into the healthcare field as a CNA approximately eight years ago. During this period, I developed a strong desire to dive more into the healthcare field so I enrolled at Stratford University and graduated with a Bachelor’s degree in Healthcare Administration with honors (Magna Cum Laude). I also sat for the Board of Long Term Care Administrators exams and received my administrator’s license. Additionally, I am a Certified Medication Aide. I am very passionate about working with the elderly population and always advocate for their wellbeing in terms of quality care."
"The favorite part of my new role is the fact that am always learning new things about Sunrise, its core value, principles of services in terms of personalized care and making sure team members provide quality of care to all of our residents. I also like singing, so oftentimes I will go into my memory care neighborhood and sing along with my residents - which they really enjoy."
"The best part of working at Sunrise is that there are always opportunities to grow within the company irrespective of how you were hired; training is always available to help you attain the highest position as possible."
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, working around the house and watching movies. I also love to spend time at the local malls shopping …. especially for clothes!"
“I joined Sunrise at George Mason in September, 2019 as the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator.
My favorite part of this job is having the opportunity to be creative and plan fun events that the residents will enjoy. Additionally, I absolutely love getting to interact with the residents and learn more about them. They make me smile and laugh constantly.
Everyone at Sunrise, from my coworkers to the residents, have been so welcoming from the moment I began. It is an extremely welcoming community that I am thankful to be a part of.
In my spare time, I am completing coursework for my MEd in Counseling at George Mason University, or spending time with family and friends.”
"I joined Sunrise in 2018 as a lead cook. I discovered my passion for cooking at the early age of 17 and later had the opportunity to study the culinary arts in the Philippines. I have worked as a sous chef in Chinese and Thai restaurants as well as even managing two food truck operations. Additionally, I have had the pleasure of working at one of our local Inova Hospitals. My diverse culinary background, you can say, helps add a little spice to all the meals I prepare!
The favorite part of my job, in addition to making certain each meal is top quality in taste and freshness for our residents, is delivering excellent customer service. I truly enjoy what I do and I take great pride in performing my job well, building a strong team that helps each other out and that knows the importance of cleanliness and quality. I believe in staying positive and smiling even thru a tough day. Because I love what I do, my team and I can share each day together working hard but also having fun at what we do.
The best part of working at Sunrise is we are like family. We have each other’s back and if someone needs some help, we are there for each other without hesitation. I also like that Sunrise provides ongoing training and support so I can continue to learn and grow in dining services.
When I am not working, I enjoy spending quality time with my family either going out to various restaurants or making one of my specialty dishes at home. I also enjoying going to the range to perfect my marksmanship as well as playing video games.
"I have worked for Sunrise since 2018. I have had a long history in customer service doing various jobs in sales, airline services, and was even a supervisor in accounting.
My favorite part about my job is the interaction I have with the wide range of people I meet. Often being the first person that our residents and visitors meet, I love that I have the opportunity to leave a positive, lasting impression on each and every person.
What I value most about working at Sunrise is the relationships I make with our residents and the culture around working with such a diverse team. I learn so much through my interactions with the residents and my team members and strive to make every day meaningful for both.
When I am not working, I love to spend my spare time at the gym. My favorite activities at the gym include swimming and relaxing in the spa. I also greatly enjoy traveling. I have visited places such as Europe, Israel, and Africa."

"I have 4 years of maintenance leadership experience in the senior living field and am excited to bring my skills to the Sunrise team that I joined in January 2020. Prior to my senior living experience, I attended Virginia Tech and pursued an education under the Building Construction Program. Afterwards, I spent 16 years building and remodeling homes in the D.C. Metro.
Close family friends introduced me to the senior living world and I continue to enjoy building relationships with my residents in the communities. Senior living can provide some unique and interesting technical troubleshooting opportunities and I enjoy the challenge. It is satisfying not only creating relationships with my residents’ but also providing solutions that improve their daily lives.
Working with Sunrise allows me to utilize my maintenance knowledge and leadership skills each day while being a part of a community atmosphere that honors and respects our residents.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and friends that I have in the area. Building is my passion, so to help keep my skills sharp I usually have one or two construction projects going that help family and friends or improving my own house.
Charlie was adopted by George Mason a couple years ago. When he first joined our community, he was very anxious. He has since settled into his new home – he greets our visitors, but makes his presence known with a friendly bark, especially to our visiting delivery drivers. Our residents have greatly benefited from having him in our home. He enjoys a good rub on his back and anyone can spoil him by grabbing a treat from his jar on their way in the door!
