Our dining program at Sunrise of Gurnee reflects fresh herb flavors, instead of salt. Many enjoy the sweetness of balsamic vinegar, while others like a dash of hot sauce on their morning eggs. No matter what your preference, there is something for everyone! We consistently offer tastings, sometimes during social hour, to inspire alternate menu choices. Our enthusiastic food committee meets every month to ensure the new and popular offerings get added to the menu rotation.
Each morning our residents enjoy their choice of omelets for breakfast and for lunch many of our residents prefer fresh salads topped with grilled chicken. A few community favorites include Kris’ pasta with blue cheese & chicken, Asian stir fry with vegetables, mini burger sliders, bratwurst with baked beans, bottom round beef with seasonal vegetables and roasted turkey. For dessert many prefer pie, while others like cookies or ice cream.
Holiday meals are a real occasion at Gurnee. We ask residents which recipes they would like prepared for upcoming occasions and then develop a unique presentation utilizing our cooks’ creative talents. Easter-time ham and turkey in November are seasonal favorites. Other special holidays such as New Year’s Eve, Election Day, President’s Day, and Veterans Day call for customized menus, as well. During the summer holidays such as the Fourth of July and Labor Day, we see requests for picnic foods and fresh seasonal favorites.
Sunrise of Gurnee’s dining service coordinator, William Feicht, has a solid culinary foundation including 3 years with the American Culinary Foundation, an apprenticeship at the Continental Plaza Westin Hotel in Chicago. He also served our very own troops in Iraq and Afghanistan for two years! He enjoys working with his Dining team and his focus on quality food is very prominent!
