Meet the Sunrise of Leawood Team

Meet some of the excellent team members here at Sunrise of Leawood, KS.

Devin S. Allred | Executive Director

Devin S. Allred

Executive Director

“I have more than 18 years of experience in operations, management and development in the senior housing industry.  I have served in various leadership roles, starting as an administrator-in-training, an assistant administrator and an administrator in skilled nursing and rehabilitation. Later in my career, I worked as the General Manager, Executive Director, Director of Operations, and an owner for independent, assisted living and memory care communities.  I also have a bachelor’s degree from Brigham Young University and a health facility administrator’s license.

I am dedicated to the belief that people thrive when provided with an engaging environment full of possibilities for living, learning and growing. For me, being part of the Sunrise Senior Living team is a great fit as the mission, culture and core values of the company are aligned with my own.

I enjoy running, biking and spending time with my wife, Brook, along with our sons, Parker and Preston.”

Michele Tonkin - Leawood DOS

Director of Sales

“Before I knew about Sunrise, I served as my grandmother’s primary caregiver. I placed her in two different senior living communities in Johnson County before I finally found Sunrise. Had I known about Sunrise and the amazing people who work for this company, I would have initially placed her here. There is no comparison in our team members’ dedication to our principles of service and belief in our mission: to champion the quality of life for all seniors. I am proud to say I work at Sunrise!  I am grateful for the opportunity to bring more families to Sunrise on a daily basis.

During my four years at Sunrise of Leawood, I’ve enjoyed interacting with our residents the most. They have so much history to share, and I look forward to seeing each and every one of them daily. I love the Sunrise signatures….particularly our community dog, Duke!”

Monica Kangethe | Resident Care Director

Monica Kangethe

Resident Care Director

“I have been with Sunrise for nearly two years. I have worked in geriatrics for eight years, serving as the Director of Nursing in a long-term care facility and a nurse educator concurrently. My experience also includes team member engagement, performance management and evaluations.

My favorite part of my job is participating in the resident’s journey by offering my skills to make their lives comfortable as they age in place. I love it when families and their loved ones know that not only am I qualified for my job, but I am dependable and love what I do.

At Sunrise, our team is very supportive and provides room for growth.

Outside of work, I love to spend my time with my family, travel, attend church and socialize with friends.”

Dorcas Mutuma | Assisted Living Coordinator

Dorcas Mutuma

Assisted Living Coordinator

“I have worked at Sunrise of Leawood since December 2008. Prior to Sunrise, I wanted to become a high school teacher. Working at Sunrise changed my mind, and I changed my graduate major to healthcare administration.

I love the opportunity to enable freedom of choice for our residents. Life is not a matter of chance, but depends on the choices that we make. Offering choices to residents makes them feel important.

Being of service to my residents gives me joy. The wisdom I get from their lives is priceless.

When I’m not at Sunrise, I like to listen to classical music, read biographies about famous people and watch Netflix.”

Angela Rushing, LPN | Health Care Manager

Angela Rushing, LPN

Healthcare Manager

“I started at Sunrise in March 2015 as a wellness nurse and took on the role of the Reminiscence Coordinator in November 2015.  I graduated from nursing school in October 2004 and have worked with those living with Alzheimer’s/dementia since that time.

I have such a passion for working with people living with Alzheimer’s/dementia.  I love getting to know each one of my residents and learning from them.  My favorite part of my job is making sure that each day is their best day!

The best part of working at Sunrise is knowing that I touch lives and make a difference every day.

In my spare time (though I have very little with five daughters and one granddaughter), I like to listen to music and watch football.  Go Steelers!”
