We’re honored to introduce you to some of the fantastic team members who serve our community here at Sunrise of Lower Makefield.
"I completed my undergraduate degree at Emmanuel College in Boston, with a dual degree in art therapy and art education. After finding my passion with helping people in need, I have collectively spent over 20 years working with individuals who have physical and cognitive challenges. I started my career in long term care, where I gained a huge appreciation and love for significantly challenged children and adults. After advancing to a program director and operations role with my previous organization, I decided to go back for my masters and completed my masters in healthcare administration in 2011. I began my career with Sunrise in January of 2013 at Sunrise of Lafayette Hill. I spent a year as personal care coordinator learning all about Sunrise programming and our residents. I continued 3 additional years at Lafayette Hill as Executive Director before transferring closer to home to Sunrise of Lower Makefield after having my son, Aidan. I have enjoyed every second of my time here at Sunrise of Lower Makefield as the Executive Director.
There has been no greater fulfillment in my life than the choice I have made to dedicate myself to our team and residents at Sunrise. I have a saying that this is not a “job,” it is a “lifestyle." To work in this industry, you must take a step back every day and recognize there is always something and someone else more important that I have made a commitment to. A commitment I wear proudly. There are so many things I look forward to daily. From the residents and families who keep me going with their continued love, support and excellent sense of humor to my amazing team. Our team is composed of devoted, loving, and passionate individuals who show up with a smile every day. To lead this team is an honor, and to serve you and your loved ones is a privilege that I do not take for granted.
When I am not at Sunrise, I spend quality time with my effervescent 6-year-old son, Aidan and our dog, Mecca who also frequents our Sunrise community. Aidan loves to do anything active, and Mecca and I love taking long walks in the evenings for an hour or two to breathe in the fresh air and appreciate our day."
"I am very excited to have joined the Sunrise of Lower Makefield in August of 2020. This is my first experience in senior living and it has already been such an amazing one. We are so fortunate to have a great team and fantastic residents to make each day in our community special. I can’t wait to continue my journey at Lower Makefield and welcome new residents to their new home!
I currently live in Philadelphia with my cat Remi. I am often surrounded by my family and friends. I am a big fan of music and love going to concerts and festivals. I love to travel and explore new places. My current goal is to see every state in the USA."
"I practically grew up in the Sunrise world! My mother was a med tech and would bring to me to work with her on the weekends sometimes at the age of 9. When I turned 11, I began volunteering. Once I turned 16, I got my first job in the kitchen. I have served in various roles over 10 years, now being a coordinator. The best part of working at Sunrise is being able to make my residents feel alive. Giving them a purpose and a reason to smile each day means the world to me and my team. They teach me new life lessons every day. I wake up with a new meaning; the relationship is definitely a two-way street. I have fostered lifetime friendships being a part of Sunrise.
When I’m not at Sunrise, I enjoy spending time with my 1 year old daughter. She keeps me busy! I also enjoy being outdoors, shopping, decorating, and the summertime."
"I began my Sunrise of Lower Makefield career in 2014 as a life enrichment manager in the Reminiscence neighborhood. I’ve had a passion for memory care long before my time working in this community. In the spring of 2019, I completed the DCIT program and was promoted to the Reminiscence Coordinator. I love providing our residents with good days and taking the time to understand people who may not be able to tell me what is on their minds. My Sunrise team has been very supportive, including providing me the opportunity to complete my Personal Care Home Administrator License.
In my spare time, I enjoy incorporating my hobbies into my neighborhood such as, playing guitar and solving puzzles."
"I have cumulatively worked for Sunrise for almost 19 years in multiple departments. I started out at Sunrise of Abington and worked in the kitchen as I put myself through nursing school. After nursing school, I was offered a position in the wellness office where I worked as wellness nurse for 7 plus years before becoming the RCD at Abington. I left Abington to further my Nursing experience and in turn worked as a hospice nurse for the next few years. In April of 2019, I was welcomed into the Lower Makefield family as a wellness nurse and as of recently accepted the position as RCD here. I truly enjoy working with our seniors, especially in a personal care environment where we really get to know our residents. It is in the getting to know them that they become a second family to all of us.
I grew up and still live in Glenside, PA, and share a home with my Fiancé and our 2 boys: Marcus who is almost 13 and Preston who is almost 10, and of course our fur babies, Teddy and Atwood, 3 and 4 year old Lab mixes. I was not always sure what I wanted to be growing up. In fact, after high school, I embarked on an accounting degree at Drexel University, but quickly came to realize it was not my life’s passion. It was working at Sunrise that I discovered my passion for working with seniors and ultimately decided the path of Registered Nurse."
"I have been at Sunrise of Lower Makefield for 5 years. I started as a care manager in personal care neighborhood and after nine months was promoted to the Live with Fulfillment Manager position in the Activities Department. September 2019 I was extremely grateful and excited to start my journey as the Personal Care Coordinator.
Sunrise of Lower Makefield is my second home. I love spending time connecting with all the residents and my team members, getting to know them, and watching my Sunrise family continue to grow. I’m truly blessed to have a career that I’m so passionate about and feel like I can make a positive difference in people’s lives.
In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, whether it’s camping, hiking, gardening or travelling. I love spending quality time with my family and friends.
"After attending Walnut Hill College for Culinary Arts and Business, I have worked in the foodservice industry for over 30 years. I have worked in hotels, restaurants, a private club, and here at Sunrise. I guess I’ve been around the block a few times as they say. There is a great deal of responsibility and it can be challenging to lead the food service that we provide to our residents. Our residents are our extended family and making them happy and keeping them healthy is truly an honor and a privilege. Getting to know the residents on a personal level is key to providing personalized service and making sure we can provide their favorites. I love working with Shanna, our leader, my fellow coordinators, and our team members who are extremely talented and dedicated to our goal of providing the very best service and experiences for our residents. People always ask “What is your favorite type of food to make?” I have done it all and don’t really have a specific favorite. So, when one of our resident’s says “I really loved what you made tonight," that instantly becomes my new favorite.
In my personal life, I enjoy spending time with my family. I have a wife and 5 children. I also enjoy working around the house renovating and updating as needed. I love attending concerts and sports events with my family and friends."
"I have been the Maintenance Coordinator for the past 6 years here at Sunrise of Lower Makefield. The best part of my job is interacting with the residents daily, whether it’s changing a light bulb, programming a remote, or replacing a P-tac. I truly enjoy conversing with the residents and getting to know their life story. I love my job and coming to work every day. I’m extremely thankful for my Sunrise family!
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with my family, driving my Jeep, and surfing whenever I get the opportunity. I am a big Philly sports fan."
"I joined the Lower Makefield team in January of 2020. I enjoy laughing with and developing bonds with the team members. Over the past year, I truly began to embrace the Sunrise culture and have gotten to know the residents and their families. I feel a sense of accomplishment when I can help the residents and their families with any questions they bring to my attention.
When I’m not working, I enjoy traveling, listening to music, and watching my amazing boys run track on the collegiate level."
