We’re thrilled to introduce you to some of the talented members of our hard-working team.

Alberto GoliaAlberto Golia

Executive Director

"I have two passions in life; Children and Seniors. I coached baseball for 13 years from T-Ball to the Junior level and will tell you I learned so much from this experience as we are never too old to learn. I began my career in senior care over 15 years ago and live by the saying, “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.” I have been an Executive Director with Sunrise since 2012 and have had the pleasure to serve our seniors. My life experience of losing siblings at an early age and both my loving parents has made me very humble. This experience has allowed me to appreciate the little things in life and not sweat the small stuff. My work has allowed me the opportunity to make a difference for seniors and it fills my heart no matter how big or small. I always make myself available to families who are having a difficult time and lend my past experience to help alleviate the stress.

In my spare time I love to walk and capture photos of whatever may catch my eye and share them with family and friends."

Candida JohnstonCandida “Candi” Johnston

Assisted Living Coordinator

"My tenure with Sunrise began in 2006 at Sunrise of Playa Vista and in 2011 transitioned to Sunrise of Santa Monica.

I have worn many hats during my thirteen years of service at Sunrise Senior Living, Care manager, Supervisor and Coordinator to name a few. I enjoyed working in our Reminiscence neighborhood(Memory Care) engaging residents in activities as well as listening to stories of their life experiences and fascinating careers.

I love that Sunrise provides opportunities for our seniors to continue enjoying life by scheduling meaningful and purposeful activities.

In my new position as Assisted Living Coordinator, I look forward to continuing our mission of championing the quality of life for all seniors. Bringing our residents with joy, smiles and the best quality of care. In my spare time, I love to watch movies with my daughter, dine out with my family and on a beautiful sunny California day, go for a hike in Malibu."

Seyla KentSeyla Kent

Reminiscence Coordinator

"The past 7 years I have been serving seniors as a Geriatric Nurse. My career at Sunrise of Santa Monica started about 3 years ago as an LVN Med Care Manager in Reminiscence then I quickly transitioned into the Wellness Nurse role. Throughout my nursing career I have worked closely with Dementia/Alzheimer’s residents, which naturally sparked my interest in Reminiscence. As the Reminiscence Coordinator I take pride and joy in advocating for my residents. All of our residents are on their own individualized journey. I’m glad I get to meet our residents where they are, and provide the highest quality of care that is specific to their needs.

In my spare time I enjoy spending time with my family cooking ,and listening to music. Working at Sunrise has really reshaped my view, to spend as much time as I can with my family."

Meredith BeutelMeredith Beutel

Business Office Coordinator

"I found my passion for working with seniors after finishing my undergraduate degree at Kent State University. I started with Sunrise at a community in Ohio as the Activity and Volunteer Coordinator. I transferred to the Santa Monica Community after moving to California a few years ago. I was able to continue in the Activity department upon arriving and have recently transitioned to the role of Business Office Coordinator. I love feeling like I am making a difference each day when I come to work. It is a joy to meet residents, families and team members while working closely with them. I feel a sense of pride to be part of an organization that stands for independence to all residents while encouraging dignity and personal choice.

When I am not at Sunrise I enjoy going to the beach, spending time outside, and cheering on all my beloved Ohio sports teams."

Joseph WilliamsJoseph Williams

Activity & Volunteer Coordinator

"While growing up in Connecticut, I always knew that I wanted to pursue a career where I could make a difference in the lives of others. As I was pursuing a degree in psychology at Howard University in Washington, D.C., I spent my spare time working with non-profits to combat poverty in D.C.’s low-income neighborhoods. Upon graduating from Howard, I was offered a position at the American Red Cross in San Francisco where I helped recruit youth and adult volunteers, and getting them involved with service-based activities. Soon afterward, I moved to sunny Los Angeles where I started my career at Sunrise in Santa Monica as the Concierge. I remember my first few weeks being such an eye-opening experience for me – I had an opportunity to meet most of the residents and got to learn who they are, where they’ve been, and what puts a smile on their face. Although I enjoyed my everyday interactions with our residents, what I wanted more than anything was to help facilitate activities that I knew our residents would enjoy. Seeing our residents have fun here at Sunrise - whether it’s during an activity or on one of our out-of-community excursions - never cease to warm my heart and constantly puts a smile on my face!

When I’m not at Sunrise, I enjoy taking photos with my photography set, jamming out on my bass guitar, and exploring all that Los Angeles has to offer!"
