How we’re responding as our vaccination rates rise.
"I have two passions in life; Children and Seniors. I coached baseball for 13 years from T-Ball to the Junior level and will tell you I learned so much from this experience as we are never too old to learn. I began my career in senior care over 15 years ago and live by the saying, “If you do what you love, you will never work a day in your life.” I have been an Executive Director with Sunrise since 2012 and have had the pleasure to serve our seniors. My life experience of losing siblings at an early age and both my loving parents has made me very humble. This experience has allowed me to appreciate the little things in life and not sweat the small stuff. My work has allowed me the opportunity to make a difference for seniors and it fills my heart no matter how big or small. I always make myself available to families who are having a difficult time and lend my past experience to help alleviate the stress.
In my spare time I love to walk and capture photos of whatever may catch my eye and share them with family and friends."
"I started with Sunrise in January 2020. Previously I worked at a Skilled Nursing Facility in Austin, Texas as and also at an Assisted Living in Costa Mesa, CA.
My favorite part of the job is meeting new residents and their families. Being able to learn their stories while helping them during an often stressful time in their lives. I learn so much from resident’s stories and their pasts. The best part of working at Sunrise is the team! Not only in Santa Monica, but I feel supported from team members across the country who have the best interests of our residents at heart.
After attending Pennsylvania State University and then living in Texas, I am so happy to be back home in Southern California. I love to be on the water, try new restaurants, and spend time with my friends and family."
"My tenure with Sunrise began in 2006 at Sunrise of Playa Vista and in 2011 transitioned to Sunrise of Santa Monica.
I have worn many hats during my thirteen years of service at Sunrise Senior Living, Care manager, Supervisor and Coordinator to name a few. I enjoyed working in our Reminiscence neighborhood (Memory Care) engaging residents in activities as well as listening to stories of their life experiences and fascinating careers.
I love that Sunrise provides opportunities for our seniors to continue enjoying life by scheduling meaningful and purposeful activities.
In my new position as Reminiscence Coordinator, I look forward to continuing our mission of championing the quality of life for all seniors. Bringing our residents with joy, smiles and the best quality of care.
In my spare time, I love to watch movies with my daughter, dine out with my family and on a beautiful sunny California day, go for a hike in Malibu."
"My name is Juan Hernandez and I am the Assisted Living Coordinator. I have been working for Sunrise for over a year. Prior to Sunrise, I worked as a nurse in a Skilled Nursing Facility for 3 years.
My favorite part of the job is meeting and anticipating the resident’s needs. My favorite part of working at Sunrise is walking in the door and seeing all the staff and residents, Sunrise is my home away from home.
In my spare time, I like hiking, reading, and spending time with my family."
"Before joining the Sunrise team, I previously worked as a culinary specialist in the US Navy for 12 years. I also worked as the executive chef at Aramark in Staten Island, NY and as the head chef at Walter Reed National Medical Center in Rockville, MD.
My favorite part of Sunrise is getting to hang out with the residents. Being able to be a part of their journey and hearing their stories is a reward in itself. There is so much history and character with each Resident and I am grateful to share that with them.
In my spare time, I write for film/tv and stay active by playing soccer."
"My name is Milton Pineda and I am the Maintenance Coordinator at Sunrise. I have worked with Sunrise for 6 months and I believe coming to Sunrise was the best decision I ever made. I get to do what I do best, but in a warm, trusting, family environment. We are a great team here at Sunrise as we all aim toward a common goal, which is to care for our most valuable assets, our residents. In my particular area of work, I take great pride and very much look forward to being a part of creating what will be the new space and home to our new residents.
Outside of work, I do as much as possible to spend it with family. I love the solitude of the mountains, hiking with family and friends and cycling solo whenever I get the chance."
