Meet the Sunrise of Victoria Team

Meet some of the members of our team here at Sunrise of Victoria, BC.

janet powerJanet Power

Executive Director

"I have spent all my 32-year career in geriatrics, mostly in Long Term Care. I started out as a Recreation Therapist, but my passion and commitment for working with seniors has led to a 26-year stint in various healthcare management roles. A dedicated life-long learner, I have a Diploma in Community recreation Leadership and an undergraduate degree in Phys. Ed & Recreation, specializing in Recreation Therapy, a post Baccalaureate in Gerontology, and an advanced certificate in Health Care Management.

I am a proud Newfoundlander and a 15 year Rotarian, having been Past President of the Rotary Club of Victoria and now an active member of the Oak Bay Rotary Club. I have been with Sunrise for since July 2019. Besides my career of working to improve the lives of seniors, I have many leisure interests and new adventures now that my days of competitive softball are behind me. I have always been driven by how seniors live in the moment and respect and appreciate the little things in life."

Director of Sales

"Prior to joining Sunrise of Victoria over 6 years ago, I worked in sales and event planning in the hospitality industry. I hold a diploma in operations management and studied sales and marketing. My favorite part of my job is working with families and seniors, and helping make those difficult decisions a little bit easier. I want to ensure that seniors and their loved ones receive the quality care and the dignity they deserve.

At Sunrise, I work alongside an incredible and inspirational team. It is a very warm family atmosphere. In my spare time, I enjoy the spectacular nature we have here and around Victoria."

june aquinoJune Aquino

Activities and Volunteer Coordinator

"I joined the Sunrise Team in 2007 immediately after completing the Home Support and Care Aide Program at Camosun College. I have since taken on various roles working at Sunrise and on the Island Health community. For many years, I have been privileged to have met so many wonderful people, residents, families, and coworkers alike. Sunrise has been my second home and is family to me.

Since taking on the role of Activities and Volunteer Coordinator, I have been given an incredible opportunity to create meaningful and purposeful moments for our residents. It has been one spectacular experience.

In my free time, I love to watch movies or tv shows, read books, go for hikes, and try new restaurants in Victoria with my husband Aaron. I also love to travel and have been to 12 countries. My favourite cities are Paris and Rio de Janeiro because of their vibrance and opulence. In the not so distant future, I would love to be able to travel to Japan and Kenya."

Resident Care Director

"I am a well-seasoned registered nurse who has had a career that has given me a vast array of experience. I've worked in bedside nursing as well as volunteered as a nurse remotely in Uganda, Africa. I pride myself on being a nurse, and leader, who can offer my expertise and passion for providing great leadership within a team that works towards providing the best care for the people that we service. I grew up in Victoria and love to call this beautiful city my home. Being a mom to two successful young adults is what I am most proud of. I am passionate about fitness and, in my spare time, I train friends to be successful with their fitness goals. I love to ride my motorcycle, climb a mountain, travel and hang out with my two Chihuahua pups as well.
I am looking forward to getting to know the residents and team that I will be working with at Sunrise of Victoria."

"I value the care and attention I’m able to provide to our residents each day. It’s my mission to ensure they all receive the best possible care. During my 15 years with Sunrise, I have had the opportunities to learn and grow. Sunrise embraces diversity and celebrates a multicultural heritage.

When I’m not at Sunrise, I enjoy watching television news and spending time with my religious community."

jenna galegoJenna Galego

Sales Assistant

"I have had the pleasure of working at Sunrise for over 15 years, and during this time, I have enjoyed working in several different roles. The residents and my fellow team members make coming to work each day fulfilling.

When I am not working, I enjoy spending time with my two little boys."

"Before coming to Sunrise, I had just completed my diploma for Contemporary Music Performance on the Fiddle (violin). I came to Sunrise during the middle of the pandemic in 2020, due to musical entertainment being put on hold, and discovered an amazing workplace for me to thrive and grow in administration and in people skills!  I grew up playing old time tunes in care homes across my home province of Saskatchewan, and since moving to BC I have found joy in being able to continue playing my fiddle weekly for the residents.

There are many things I enjoy about Sunrise!  As a people person, working the front desk lets me interact with the residents, their visitors, and all of the lovely Sunrise staff on a daily basis."
