"I have worked at Sunrise for 4 years. I worked for Elwyn for over 15 years in various HR capacities. After that I was an HR Specialist for Franklin Mint Federal Credit Union for 3 years, then a Senior Benefits Specialist for Allied Barton Security Services for 2 years. Also have my PHR which is a highly recognized and regarded Human Resources certificate.
My favorite part of the job is interacting with the Team Members and Residents. The best part of working at Sunrise is that I enjoy working in a people oriented profession and Sunrise provides that satisfaction by providing excellent care for seniors.
During my spare time I like to stay active by walking my dogs, working out at the gym and maintaining my home with my husband. I also enjoy reading and spending time with my children and grandchildren."
“In addition to serving as the Dining Services Coordinator, I am also a Cluster Leader and help to support seven area Sunrise communities in the surrounding Pennsylvania region. I am a graduate of the Culinary Institute of America and worked locally at the Hotel DuPont for 15 years. I was also an Executive Chef for Fieldstone Golf Club and the Sodexo, Aramark and Compass Group corporations. As the Executive Chef for Gate Gourmet of Dulles Virginia Airport, my team produced 15,000 to 20,000 meals a day for 19 different International Airlines. I take great pride in helping to produce delicious ‘home cooked’ meals for our residents here at Sunrise of Wilmington. Another great aspect of working for Sunrise is the work-life balance that enables me to spend with my wife, Lori, and almost 4-year-old daughter, Chloe. In my spare time, I enjoy tropical vacations with my family, playing golf and listening to Jimmy Buffett. I also enjoy cooking for my friends and family at home.”
“I have been in the senior living industry for the past 10 years, and prior to joining the Sunrise of Wilmington team, I have worked in a variety of roles in memory care, assisted living, and independent living. Through my experiences, I have become a Certified Dementia Practitioner and Certified Activity Director.
"My name is Nancy Hutchison and I am the head concierge at Sunrise of Wilmington, DE. I have worked for Sunrise for a total of 14 years. I was here for 8 years when I had a death in my family and I chose to leave. I did not work for 2 years, when Tamme Hackett called and asked me if I was interested in coming back to work. I jumped at the chance. I have now been here another 6 years.
I like meeting all the new people that come into our community, and I like getting to know the residents and their families. It is interesting to talk to them and hear about their lives before Sunrise. The best part of working at Sunrise is interacting with the residents when they are doing activities and hearing how much they enjoyed where they went on their outings. It is always good to talk to them and hear the different ways they see things about where they went and what they did.
In my spare time, I enjoy doing crafts. I have done a few with the residents, but most of the time I do them with a friend. I often give out my crafts as gifts. I’m told by the heads of the department that they look forward to seeing what I give them for Christmas!"
"I have worked with Sunrise for 2 years, but I have 25 years of experience working in long term care facilities.
My favorite part of the job is helping the residents. The best part of working at Sunrise is the people I work with and the residents I work for.
During my spare time I enjoy watching the Eagles and the Phillies, and spending time with my family."
"This is my first professional experience with Sunrise Senior Living, however I’ve had a passion for the geriatric community from a very young age. I was very fortunate to have so many loving grandparents in my life, one that even owned her own nursing home, and I wanted to pursue a career that focused on championing every senior’s quality of life just like theirs. So, with that passion, I studied Health and Behavior Science at the University of Delaware with a minor in Disability Studies and completed an internship at a neighboring retirement community. It was there that my calling in life had been confirmed, realizing I was pursuing exactly what I wanted to be. It was at Sunrise Senior Living that I realized exactly where I needed to be. My favorite part of my job hands down is making the residents laugh. Here at Sunrise we have a Principle of Service, “Celebrating Individuality” which encompasses the fact that every Sunrise resident has a story that we want to hear and understand. It is usually during this time when I’m listening to all of their stories, discovering anything and everything about them, that I tend to slip in a joke or reveal an incredibly embarrassing story about my individuality (and believe me, there are many) that they can’t help but let out a good ole belly laugh. Those moments are the ones I look forward to every single day and that make this position all the worthwhile. The best part of working at Sunrise is that every day I get to witness and be a part of such top-level care given by the most genuinely kind-hearted staff you can find. There tends to be a stigma that lingers around the idea of senior living and I have witnessed it first-hand with my own family members, however, Sunrise was that breath of fresh air that completely squashed that way of thinking. Everyone goes above and beyond here to make sure that even in your older years, they’ll be the best years yet."
"I started at Sunrise in 2018 as a Concierge and Care Giver, eventually transitioning into Activities.
My favorite part of the job is planning and doing activities with the residents. The best part of working at Sunrise is interacting with the residents and being able to put a smile on their faces.
During my spare time I enjoy hiking, extreme sports, volunteering and hanging out with friends."
