Life at The Fairfax is fun - especially when it involves fitness! Hear from the residents themselves on their favorite fitness classes in our Aquatic & Fitness Program.
The Fairfax Aquatic & Fitness Program offers a variety of fitness and wellness classes for residents to maintain their quality of life through good health and well-being. We offer classes in yoga, tai chi, zumba & aqua zumba, strength & balance training, as well as water aerobics. Residents can join our weekly lectures on senior wellness topics presented by our Therapy Department or they can take advantage of personal training, our indoor and outdoor walking program, or even a massage. David Blum, owner of Exercise Rx, L. C., is a certified personal trainer through the highly recognized NSCA (National Strength and Conditioning Association)
David has been working with older adults at the Fairfax since 2000 both with group exercise and personal training. Focusing on correct mechanics, posture, technique, and proper exercise prescription he has helped residence drastically improve safety, strength, posture/alignment, balance, and flexibility.

June completed her Massage Therapy Program at Shenandoah Valley School of Therapeutic Massage, LLC in Edinburg, VA. She is nationally certified, Virginia licensed, and an active member of the American Massage Therapy Association.
She offers a broad range of massage modalities including Medical Massage, Swedish, Deep Tissue, Myofascial Release, Oncology, Reflexology and Reiki for client's individual needs. She has worked extensively with clients who experience chronic pain from injury or illness, using deep and specific soft tissue manipulation with wonderful results.

Loretta is certified as a E- RYT200 yoga teacher, a sound healer, and a trainer for trauma-sensitive yoga.
She also is certified in and teaches weight bearing exercises and enjoys teaching sculpting and strength training classes for adults, specializing in meeting the needs of individuals within a class setting. She is a certified personal trainer, holds a certification in SilverSneakers and Exercise for Frail Elders, and specific training for individuals with osteoporosis.

Parker is certified as a Personal Trainer and Senior Personal Trainer. He served as a personal fitness trainer at Vantage Fitness in Falls Church, VA for six years, and now teaches in the Aquatic & Fitness Program at The Fairfax and with clients doing in-home training. His "exercise philosophy" is to make exercise fun and informative for his clients. In recent years, Parker has emphasized and incorporated balance training as an integral part of each resistance workout.

Paulina is certified in and teaches Zumba Gold, Zumba Toning, and Spinning, Total Body Conditioning, Zumba with high and low instensity, and Chair Zumba. Currently, she is in the process of receiving her American Council on Exercise (ACE) Personal Training Certification.

Siggi is a registered Yoga Teacher (RYT 200) trained and certified in Integral Yoga and Yoga Nidra Meditation Levels I & 2. She is also a Thai Yoga Massage Practitioner and holds a second degree in Reiki.
Along with her devotion to Yoga over the last 8 years, Siggi has been studying alternative healing methods such as Homeopathy, Ayurveda and proper nutrition. She specializes in combining these into one holistic approach towards health through obtaining complete mind and body awareness. She has six years of experience teaching Chair and Mat Yoga for seniors.

Suzanne Ludlum, RYT500, has been a yoga practitioner for more than 15 years, and has been teaching yoga since 2006. She believes that “yoga is for every body”, no matter what condition the individual is in when he/she approaches a practice. Suzanne has a therapeutic approach to her teaching and helps students realize their innate human potential both on and off the mat. Suzanne is completing her Masters of Science in Yoga Therapy at Maryland University of Integrative Health.

Yoga Stretching in the Chair for Beginners – Thursday at 11:00 am in the Activities Room
Tori is certified by the Aquatic Exercise Association, the Arthritis Foundation, and the American Sports and Fitness Association as a Senior Fitness Instructor and Personal Aquatic Fitness Trainer. She has also served as a Red Cross Water Safety Instructor, Water Fitness Instructor, Aquatic Assistant and Land Program Coordinator with the Fairfax County Park Authority.
