Cheers to 25 Years! The Jefferson’s 25th Anniversary Celebration
By: Anne Jacobs
On Friday, October 20th, The Jefferson celebrated its Silver Anniversary with an evening of festivities befitting the wonderful 25 years since its founding. The revelry began with an Anniversary Reception in the living room with drinks and hot hors d'oeuvres where residents mixed and mingled among the elegant sounds of the classical trio String of Pearls.
Following the opening reception, the evening continued with a delicious dinner in the dining room featuring tender filet mignon and Chilean sea bass cooked to perfection. Dinner was a progressive affair, concluding in the living room with a variety of specialty desserts and a chocolate fountain that was an absolute hit, and a favorite of many. With the luxurious entrees and decadent desserts, many raved that the chefs, and all the dining team members, had truly outdone themselves.
At 7:30 p.m., residents were joined by the Jefferson team members and their families, activity instructors and other special guests of the community for a Black Tie optional dance. The swinging Dale Jarrett Trio got the dance floor filled immediately, and it stayed full all night, with the help of ballroom dance instructor, Garrey Stinson, who was on hand to encourage anyone feeling a little more shy. The atmosphere was lively, with ladies looking gorgeous in their gowns and sequins and gentlemen looking dapper in their tuxedos and suits.
While the cocktails flowed, and the dancers danced, guests took in the beautiful surroundings, including a towering and exquisite 25th Anniversary ice sculpture, impeccable displays of shrimp and stone crab and photos, articles and artifacts from throughout The Jefferson’s 25 year history. At 8:15 p.m., Jefferson executive director, Juli Swanson, gave a moving champagne toast to the community, including its residents and families, team members, and the guests that all make up the greater Jefferson family. Resident, Daisy Dobeck, then cut the Anniversary Cake. Daisy was selected as the resident ambassador as she also cut the ribbon at the grand opening of The Jefferson’s pool & spa in 1992!
At the end of the night, the Dale Jarrett Trio closed with “When Your Smiling.” The dance floor was so packed with people laughing and dancing that it spilled out into the living room. I couldn’t help but look at all of the smiling faces and think that, tonight, the whole world truly WAS smiling with all of us at The Jefferson.
Letter From Our Resident
Though we returned from a week-long trip too exhausted and too late in the evening to dress up and attend and participate in the anniversary festivities, I did wander through for about two minutes at about 8:45 p.m. (totally inappropriately dressed) and was blown away. The invitation read “Anniversary Party” and I didn’t know what to expect. I instantly noticed the cabaret feeling in the ballroom, the champagne, hors d’oeuvres and dessert stations, the gala attire, and the general party air. The staff was there, attentive and participating while attending to the party-goers.
Today I walked across the second floor and saw the wonderful displays on the windows and the counter-tops of not only former Jefferson events, but “life in 1992.” Fun and festive, but requiring a lot of time to research and create.
Please share this, Juli, with your entire staff. An event of last night’s magnitude requires “all hands on deck—food service, security, facilities, activities, administration, etc.” And I know from my own life experiences, that an event like that does not “just happen.” It takes hours and hours and hours of planning and coordination.
Thanks on behalf of all Jefferson residents for a truly lovely event.
