Juilliard Students story
We’re ecstatic about our continued partnership with the Juilliard School to incorporate senior-friendly music lessons into our resident activities. Juilliard students harness the power of music to support connection and healthy aging. Our program director, Alyssa Friedman is very impressed with the program: “What’s most remarkable for me is being able to see a resident who has dementia come down to a program. Maybe they’re nonverbal but [they still] sing along.”
NYU Students
In 2023, a pre-med student approached Alyssa Friedman, our community’s program director, with an idea to incorporate art therapy into our programming. She greenlit the program and eventually the success led to the establishment of Dementia Art Therapy Alliance, a nonprofit that aims enhance the lives of people with dementia through art. Friedman raves about the successful partnership: “Our reminiscence residents—those in memory care—love our projects and are really proud to show off their artwork.”
Miniature Horses
We’re dedicated to finding unique ways to make our residents’ days meaningful and exciting. And a visit from miniature therapy horses did just that! Pearl and Aiden, seasoned therapy horses, came right into our community and made residents’ faces—and spirits–light up.
Sitting on the patio, residents enjoyed petting and bonding with the horses, which brought back fond memories as well as a calming, comforting presence.
