Q&A with Chris Winkle, Sunrise’s New CEO
Q. What is your favorite part about working with seniors?
A. My entire career, I’ve really loved working with seniors and kids as they are very similar – they are both going to be brutally honest and say exactly what they want to say. It’s very refreshing.
I’m also an avid historian and a big fan of culture. I love sitting with seniors and listening to their stories and experiences. It really gives me a different perspective.
Q. What’s the greatest lesson you have learned from working with seniors?
A. I’m constantly reminded that our seniors have walked paths I have never seen, and from their experiences they’ve gained a great deal of understanding and wisdom that I can benefit from. They remind you to be compassionate and always respect each other.
Q. What was your first impression of a Sunrise community?
A. Sunrise is a warm place. From the people who are extremely accepting, to the communities and all throughout the organization, there is a great sense of friendliness and warmth.

Q. Why do you think residents and their families should choose Sunrise?
A. Families should know that the people at Sunrise truly do care and that they treat our residents like members of their own family.
Q. How would you describe your leadership style?
A. I like to think my leadership style is collaborative and adaptive. I like to help people define their vision and set their direction to succeed.
Q. What do you like to do for fun?
A. I like to hang out with my wife and kids, and participate in their activities.
Q. What’s your favorite book? Movie?
A. My favorite books are The Great Gatsby and Unbroken. For movies, I’d pick Casablanca and It’s a Wonderful Life. I'm also a music lover, and my favorite song is American Pie.
Q. Which sports teams do you cheer for?
A. I love sports and spend time rooting for the Baltimore Ravens, Buffalo Bills and Baltimore Orioles.
