Rita Altman is the vice president of Memory Care and Programming for Sunrise Senior Living where she uses the latest evidence-based research to design and oversee the implementation of Sunrise’s memory care and assisted living programs. She is one of a handful of people in the world hand trained in the Validation Method by its creator, Naomi Feil. Validation is a technique for meaningful communication with those with memory loss. Samantha Lawrence, Director of Program Services, has been with Sunrise Senior Living for the past 6 ½ years in the roles of Reminiscence Coordinator, Executive Director, and for the past year, Director of Program Services, working to develop and support quality programming for residents at Sunrise. Prior to joining the Sunrise family, Samantha worked in activities and programming leadership roles in the skilled nursing and assisted living settings. Eric Portnoff began his career in long term care working with adults with developmental disabilities and mental illness. He became an Executive Director of two successive nonprofit agencies that operated group homes and tenant support programs for DD/MI adults. After two years as an Executive Director for Sunrise Senior Living, he joined the Sunrise national memory care team as a Regionial Director of Memory Care. Lynne Colman has worked in the Seniors Housing Sector for over 10 years as a Nurse, Executive Director and Regional Director. Her passion for seniors has most recently directed her career path to Sunrise Senior Living as a Regional Director of Memory Care. Sandy Strathmeyer has worked as a Memory Care Director for Sunrise Senior Living for the past 5 years. She has served as a Validation Teacher for 11 years and is also a Dementia Care Training Specialist and an Alzheimer’s Association Support Group Facilitator (for over 20 years) for the Greater Pennsylvania Chapter. Sandy is further involved with the Alzheimer’s Association and has served as an Advisory Board member for 6 years and as a Co-chairperson for the York, Pennsylvania Walk to End Alzheimer’s for 7 years now, an event hosted by the Association.
