This National Assisted Living Week (NALW) we celebrate the theme of “Nourishing Life: Mind, Body, Spirit.” And, oh, how true it is that assisted living is an ideal environment for social engagement and individualized care to nurture the whole person.

Think about some of the things that enrich your life and touch the mind, body and spirit. Is it cooking, meditating before starting your day, playing a game of tennis or chatting it up at book club? No matter your age, we all want to participate in meaningful activities that will nourish us overall.

At Sunrise, we’ve long recognized this, and provide carefully planned programming unique to our residents, ensuring they each have an opportunity to lead a fulfilling life. Our communities are purpose-built, meaning that we have designed them with not only care but customized programming in mind.  Whether it’s a poetry class, walking club or art activity with the local elementary school kids, all of our residents can find something that they personally enjoy doing. For more than 30 years, Sunrise has delivered a tailored approach to care. It has helped us form close bonds with residents because we get to know their interests and favorite pastimes, and even the things they dislike!

For residents experiencing memory loss, our Life Enrichment Managers help adapt activities based on each individual’s life story, skills and interests. From reuniting a resident with their past love for quilting, to helping a senior learn how to communicate through music, our teams have identified and supported residents’ engagement in meaningful activities to bring the dignity and purpose they deserve.

To get a glimpse of what a typical day in a Sunrise community looks like, I invite you to take a look at a community’s activity calendar, posted to each Sunrise community page. Of course, you’re always more than welcome to schedule a visit to a community and come see for yourself how we Nourish Life!
