"I have been with the Sunrise family since May 2017. Growing up around seniors in our family’s board and care homes, I developed a love for caring for older adults. What I love most is sitting down and getting to know our residents- hearing their individual stories and learning about their life experiences. The best part of working at Sunrise is being able to make a difference in someone’s day as much as they make a difference in mine.
In my spare time, I enjoy spending time and traveling with my wife and two young daughters, Ella and Grace. I love watching boxing and basketball and enjoy cheering for the Lakers. It is my dream to one day retire and open my own ice cream shop."
“I love working with our residents – they have the best stories! They make me smile every day.
My father had dementia. I’m extremely proud to work for a company such as Sunrise that provides amazing care to seniors and those with dementia in a lovely, caring, warm environment.
Outside of work, I like to spend time with my family, travel, go to L.A. Angels baseball games and visit Disneyland!”
"I was born and raised in the Philippines where I got my BSN and Master degree in Nursing, Major in Nursing Administration. I have been a Registered Nurse for over 25 years. My experiences includes both clinical and managerial in the areas of SNF, long term care, hospice, medical surgical, pre-op surgery, hemodialysis, and post anesthesia care unit. I joined Sunrise in November 2019.
My favorite part of the job is being around the residents. I especially love visiting them one-on-one in their own suites. I also find giving nursing education to be very fulfilling
In my spare time, I love to travel and spend quality time with my husband and only daughter. We love to eat out and watch movies. I also enjoy reading medical news, books and articles."
"I began my career with Sunrise in the summer of 2005 answering phone calls and greeting all who entered the building. Although curiosity brought me to the field of senior healthcare, I quickly grew to love not just the seniors but also the Sunrise company.
I would say my favorite thing about working with Sunrise would have to be the relationships gained with the residents and the wisdom they impart. I recall one resident who taught me the value of learning how to say thank you in different languages. I learned about sacrifice and loss through the stories of our war veterans and the residents who grew up in a time frame when resources were scarce. There are many things the residents have taught and so much more that I have to learn. I am thankful to be a part of the Sunrise company."
“My favorite part of my role as the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator is organizing all the fun events (big or small) and making our residents smile!
The best part of working at Sunrise is, without a doubt, spending time with our residents. You will never find another job where you are constantly overwhelmed with love.
When I’m not a work, I love camping, backpacking, reading and spending time with family.”
"My name is Debbie Shashkin and I have been working for Sunrise Senior Living for 13 years. I have loved every minute of it. I love spending time with family & family pets, quick weekend getaways with my husband of 30 years to have some casino fun and my annual girls trip with my best friends of 40 years. One thing I have taken away from my time with Sunrise is that “It takes a team” and I have a great one."
“I think being in love with life is the key to eternal youth” –Doug Hutchison
"While I’ve only been with Sunrise since January 2019, I’ve found that every second of every day that I spend here has filled my life with love and purpose. Prior to working with seniors, I built my career providing services to adults with developmental and intellectual disabilities. Through that work, I found a deep passion for helping and caring for others. I’ve spent time as a Life Skills Instructor, as an in-home caregiver, as a nursing assistant, and as an Area Supervisor for the downtown Seattle area. I find joy and purpose in everything I do, but nothing has quite compared to the power of the work I do here at Sunrise. I look forward to the many years I have ahead of me with this amazing team.
When I’m not at work, I spend my time painting, sketching, taking photographs, and playing music (my trumpet and I have been together for 17 years!) I enjoy going on adventures and making lots of memories."
"I was born in Kenya, and graduated as a Journalist student in 1999. Soon after graduating, I landed a job as a News Director/ Production Manager at a TV station where I worked for 5 years before coming to the USA in 2004. I continued on to graduate with a Diploma in Film from New York Film Academy Los Angeles in 2005. Afterwards, I changed careers and joined the medical field as a Home Health Caregiver in 2005. Shortly thereafter I took a second job as a personal assistant and spent 10 years working with Kirstine and Company. I then worked at Silverado as a Caregiver then Mentor for 2 years while still in school. In August 2017 I began my career with Sunrise. I started as a medication care manager, became a lead med care manager and then successfully entered and completed the Department Coordinator in Training Program which led me to my current position as the Reminiscence Coordinator. In 2018 I graduated with an Associate Degree from Long Beach City College and now am pursuing my Bachelor’s in Liberal Arts at Cal State Long Beach. On my day off, I relax at the beach or stay home watching movies. I have a cat named Jose and I call my mama in Africa every week."
"My name is Eric and I am originally from Delaware. I grew up in a small town called Wilmington and that’s where my story really begins.
I graduated from Johnson & Wales University in Providence, Rhode Island with a degree in culinary arts. After college, I worked along the eastern sea board in town called Charleston, South Carolina. There I trained as a sous chef in a fine dining restaurant. In 2015 I began my career with Sunrise of Huntington Beach. From time to time, I would help out in various other Sunrise communities throughout OC area, one of which was Fullerton. When the opportunity arose, I applied at Sunrise of Fullerton and became the Dining Service Coordinator. In my spare time, I enjoy spending time with family and water sports."
"I was born & raised in Orange County. After high school I joined the Navy and worked as a weapons system technician for 6 years. I have always been mechanically inclined however my career in maintenance actually began with the company by the name of Neiman Marcus. Through the course of the years, my knowledge and experience of the field grew. After touring a Sunrise community in Mission Viejo I immediately feel in love with the atmosphere. I knew this was a place I wanted to work, so in 2015 I joined the team and I’ve been here ever since.
I am a devoted father who enjoys driving motorcycles along the coast."
