We are pleased to introduce you to some of the members of our dedicated team here at Sunrise of Huntington Beach.
“I joined Sunrise of Huntington Beach in May 2017. Previously, I have held various management positions in senior care including being an administrator of my own assisted living community for the last eleven years prior to joining the Sunrise team. I received my master’s in gerontology from Cal State Fullerton and my bachelor’s in business administration from the University of California, Riverside.
I grew up taking care of older adults, being around them since I was a child in our family businesses of board and care homes throughout Southern California. Spending time with residents, learning about their experiences and life stories is what I love most about what I do.
I enjoy spending most of my free time with my wife and two young daughters, Ella and Grace. I also enjoy traveling to beach destinations, watching basketball and boxing. When I retire, I hope to open my own ice cream shop.“
“I’ve been with Sunrise for eight years; four years in sales and marketing. Before that, I was the Reminiscence Coordinator here at Sunrise of Huntington Beach. I attended San Diego State University and obtained my gerontology degree. Previous to Sunrise, I worked at another senior living community that specialized in Alzheimer’s and dementia.
“I have been a nurse for over 30 years. I worked in a hospital almost all of my career. Mostly in women’s services and then went on to do hospice for three years and it was one of my most favorite jobs. I loved meeting people and families and felt as though I made a difference in their lives.
Doing hospice is what led me to Sunrise. I knew I wanted to work here every time I came to do a visit. I love the environment here and love the residents and families. It feels like a second home to me. I have been married for 37 years to my husband, Marlon, and we have six grown kids. We have four boys of our own and adopted a young teenager that was a friend of our boys in high school. We eventually ended up meeting and adopting his younger sister.”
"I joined Sunrise of Huntington Beach in February 2018. Previously, I worked for our sister community, Sunrise Villa Bradford as the Activities Assistant. I’ve worked in several jobs since the age of 18 coordinating activities for seniors, here in Southern California and in South Carolina. I received my bachelor’s degree in health science from Cal State Fullerton.
From a young age, I’ve had a strong connection with seniors. I love spending time with them. It’s like having a never-ending supply of grandparents! It’s a blessing to go to work each day knowing I am doing something I love. When I am not working, you can find me exploring and photographing different cuisines with my husband and friends or singing with the Meritage Vocal Arts Ensemble."
“My name is Michelle Machuca and I am the Reminiscence Coordinator. I first came to Sunrise in July of 2016 as a Wellness Nurse, after obtaining my license as an LVN. I was promoted to Reminiscence Coordinator in June of 2018. Prior to my time here at Sunrise, I worked in medical billing for fifteen years before going back to school to pursue my nursing degree. I've known since I was a little girl that I wanted to help seniors, so working at Sunrise has fulfilled that dream for me. Working with our residents gives me great joy, and I walk away happy every day, knowing that I made a resident laugh or smile. When I'm not here, I'm usually spending time with my family.”
"I joined the Sunrise of Huntington Beach team in 2012 and have held many roles during my time here. My favorite part of my current role is using my creativity and compassion to find resolutions to any problems residents may encounter. I enjoys being surrounded by like-minded people who share a resident-centered approach to caregiving. When I'm not working, I enjoy going to basketball games with my daughter and enjoying music at concerts or other events."
"I say that when the residents and their families are having a great time together, my team and I feel like part of the family. As the Terrace Club Coordinator, I feel that Sunrise gives me the opportunity to feel that I'm making a meaningful impact on residents’ lives. Outside of work, I like to garden, cook, watch movies and spend time outside."
