Meet the Sunrise of La Palma Team

We’re excited to introduce you to some of the fantastic team members who make Sunrise of La Palma, CA, a wonderful place to call home.

Executive Director

Brett has been working at Sunrise of La Palma since 2016.  Prior to Sunrise, Brett earned his MBA from Thunderbird School of Global Management and worked for years in international management and consulting with an emphasis on training and onboarding programs.  He is happy to be working at Sunrise because he loves the residents, team members, and the company.  Brett loves spending time with his family, outdoor activities like skiing and surfing, and occasionally growing a mustache.

Director of Sales

Sandra’s professional background in senior living began one and a half years prior to coming to Sunrise in March 2018. Having personal experience with her mother’s diagnosis with Alzheimer’s disease in 2002 heightened her desire to become involved in the aging population and those living with dementia.

“Learning about families, their maturing loved ones and walking with them through challenges and successes is a tremendous honor. I have a deep appreciation and fondness for these courageous individuals whom walk through our doors and place their trust in our community, whether it’s for a first time visit or long-term home”, says Sandra.

Of her free time, Sandra says “Leisurely moments are spent shopping, gardening, caring for my mini animal rescue, expressing my creativity and enjoying life with my best friend, my husband.”

Health Care Manager

In 2004, Crystal began her career at Sunrise and has served at several sister communities.  Her tenure at Sunrise of La Palma began in February of 2010, “This is here where I feel truly at home”, comments Crystal.  Her previous nursing experience included working in hospice along with the skilling nursing environment. 

Crystal continues, “My love and heart is devoted to Sunrise – I love working here.  Time spent in and out of the community helping our seniors and their families is very rewarding; it is so much more than just a job."

When not at work, Crystal enjoys spending time with her family.

Assisted Living Coordinator

Sarah started working for Sunrise in August 2008 as a Designated Care Manager, was promoted to a Lead Care Manager, then a Supervisor and currently manages the entire assisted living care team as the Assisted Living Coordinator.  Taking a class on Alzheimer’s and Dementia at Long Beach City College sparked her passion for seniors and was the catalyst to go in to senior living.  Shortly after beginning her career with Sunrise, Sarah learned that her grandmother has been diagnosed with Alzheimer’s – this firsthand experience was invaluable for her role within the community.

Sarah comments, “I enjoy laughing, learning, caring, and supporting our seniors and their families.  The team members that I have the pleasure of working with have become a second family to me.  Away from Sunrise, I enjoy spending time with my family and watching baseball games. Go Dodgers!"

Reminiscence Coordinator

Steven began his journey at Sunrise in 2014 as a Designated Care Manager in assisted living. Since then, he has truly learned what it means to be a universal worker as he has been given the opportunity to step in for many roles.

Steven comments, “I am so grateful for the opportunity to make a difference in the lives of our resident’s, their families and our team members in any way that I am needed. I am honored to wake up each day and ensure that my residents are receiving the best care possible. It’s my joy to continue to champion the quality of life for all seniors in and out of Sunrise as my journey has just begun!”

A few of Steven’s interests include music, iced tea and his American Eskimo dog, Aria Rae.

Activities & Volunteer Coordinator

Nathalia joined the Sunrise team in 2017 as a Designated Care Manager for the night shift. She then worked as a Lead Care Manager before becoming the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator in June 2018. She was motivated to pursue a career with Sunrise Senior Living after obtaining her B.S. degree in Community Health Education. Nathalia has a passion for working with the senior population and appreciates the opportunity to engage residents in activities and bringing purpose to their days.

“I enjoy spending time with my family and trying to pet as many dogs as possible”, says Nathalia.

Jeremai Soto

Dining Services Coordinator

After participating in the Culinary Arts Program at Los Angeles Trade-Tech College to learn about food and different cultures, Jeremai found his passion. Once receiving his A.A. degree in Culinary Arts, which took him to visit culinary countries like Italy, Spain and Germany, he knew that he wanted to work where food made a difference in people’s lives.

In November 2013 Jeremai began his career with Sunrise, first as a Cook, and now the Dining Services Coordinator. Jeremai comments, “Since working at Sunrise of La Palma, I have come to realize that this has been the best decision of my life. Working in a senior community makes me excited because I get to learn what food means to our residents and that what I do in the community can bring them happiness.”

In Jeremai’s spare time he likes to spend time with this family, be physically fit and workout at the gym and eat doughnuts.

Business Office Coordinator

Beginning her career at Sunrise in November 2011, Sandra had the opportunity to care for our residents as a Designated Care Manager. Since then, she has worked as a Lead Care Manager, Administrative Assistant and now as a Business Office Coordinator. Sandra enjoys working for Sunrise because of the people; she truly believes Sunrise hires serving hearts who care for our residents and follow our mission – to champion the quality of life for all seniors.

Outside of work, Sandra enjoys spending time with her husband and three children, watching movies and visiting new places.

Maintenance Coordinator

Richard began his tenure in 2003, approximately one year after this home-like community was built.

“Our residents keep me busy– every day is a parade and every meal a banquet. My schedule is diverse and all-encompassing, which keeps me on my toes and in the game at all times”, notes Richard.

His interests include God, his wife, children and grandchildren and he encourages their interests and join them in their adventures, “I am sold out and all in”, Richard adds.
