COVID-19: Local Update

We understand that news reports of more COVID-19 cases in your area are very concerning, and we are committed to keeping our communities informed during this difficult time. Sunrise has nearly 40 years of experience caring for seniors, and infection control is part of our everyday operations. Out of an abundance of caution, we expanded our existing infection control programming, consistent with guidance from the Centers for Disease Control & Prevention (CDC), weeks ago and began implementing a number of measures to protect our team members and residents from COVID-19, including:

  • Conducting resident health evaluations, including daily temperature checks and respiratory assessments.
  • Instructing team members to stay home if sick or experiencing virus symptoms, and asking team members to self-quarantine in cases of possible exposure to infectious illness.
  • Screening all team members and visitors for possible illness, recent international travel, and potential exposure to the virus.
  • Re-educating our team members and monitoring to ensure that community teams are following the standards in our evidence-based Infection Control and Prevention program, such as frequent handwashing, cleaning of high-touch surfaces, and other recommended respiratory and other hygiene measures.
Currently, we are also asking residents to remain in their suites, including during meal time. All residents will have meals delivered to their suites unless they require support while dining.

We have been coordinating closely with the CDC and other local and national health authorities, who have commended Sunrise for the robust infection control measures we have implemented to mitigate the risk of spreading COVID-19. Preventative measures include:

  • Professionally deep cleaning the entire affected community.
  • Prohibiting visitors at the community unless absolutely necessary to provide critical healthcare and services or for a resident at the end of life.
  • Cancelling all community-wide activities and working with our teams to engage all of our residents in meaningful and purposeful activities in their suites.
  • Providing opportunities to virtually socialize with loved ones via Skype and FaceTime.
We understand that the evolving situation with COVID-19 is enormously disruptive, and our team is working to maintain normalcy for our residents and families as much as possible during this difficult time. Should our guidance for residents and families change in any way, that information will be communicated directly, and our team members are always available to speak with families about the personalized care we are providing to their loved one.

We want to thank our residents, families, and team members for their understanding, cooperation and words of support in recent days. We appreciate the trust you place in us every day, and it is our honor and privilege to serve your family.
