Rita Altman R.N., M.S.N., C.V.M.
Rita Altman, Senior Vice President, Memory Care & Program Services for Sunrise Senior Living, uses the latest evidence-based research to design and oversee the implementation of Sunrise’s memory care and assisted living programs. She is one of 10 Validation Masters worldwide and studied under Naomi Feil, who developed the Validation Method.
Rita has more than 30 years of nursing experience including nursing education, staff development training, and intergenerational programming, as well as management in childcare, adult day care, assisted living, and skilled nursing settings.
Life Enrichment Managers and Designated Care Managers
Life Enrichment Manager (LEM):
A designated Life Enrichment Manager (LEM) is assigned to each memory care resident, and he or she gets to know the resident: their experiences, talents, preferences, and abilities. The LEM then creates a plan to reinforce each resident’s identity and allows them to experience meaning and purpose each day.
LEMs undergo training that helps them assess individual interests and abilities, which can be matched with life skills and activities that tap into implicit and procedural memories.
Designated Care Manager (DCM):
Designated Care Managers are trained spot any subtle changes in a resident’s condition, and act quickly to provide the best possible care and service. Sunrise DCMs are responsible for assisting residents with memory loss and Alzheimer's care needs, and they also encourage independence, preserve dignity, and assist residents in their suites and throughout the community.
