Our Serving Hearts

Sunrise Senior Living team members believe real happiness and joy come from serving others. Joy in Service is not just a Sunrise Core Value; it is a guiding principle for all that we do, and a passion that’s evident in daily interactions with residents and other team members.

We hire people who have a natural serving heart and share our commitment to quality senior care. All team members attend Sunrise University, our internationally recognized training program, where new employees fine-tune their skills to prepare them for their role.

A cornerstone of Sunrise University, The Learning Channel is an online resource where employees participate in self-guided career training featuring: online courses, customized tools to help in specific roles, group training courses, continuing education and skill building tips and exercises.

Neils' Sunrise Story

Our team members are proud to share the meaning of their work:

“Everyone has the right to a good quality of life and it makes me feel good knowing that we make the residents’ lives better. We laugh with them, cry with them, sing and dance with them — we’re there when they go to sleep and there when they wake up in the morning to brighten their day. Working here is an unbelievable privilege and it will be something I carry with me for the rest of my life!”

— Lead Care Manager, Brighton Gardens of Westlake, OH

“Although I had been a restaurant chef for years, I didn’t have any experience in assisted living when I began as a Dining Services Coordinator. So, I looked to the residents for advice and ideas to keep them excited about the food we serve. We have so many different cultures here and I incorporate each of them into our meals. The most important thing is just listening to the residents.”

— Dining Services Coordinator, Brighton Gardens of Columbia, MD

“She carries out the Sunrise mission to champion the quality of life for all seniors in every interaction she has with our residents and families. She always comes to work with the biggest smile on her face and is eager to serve! She takes great pride in giving each resident she cares for the highest quality of care. She is the best of the best!”

“I feel fortunate to work in such a great community where I can feel confidence and pride in the services I present to prospective residents and their families. I am one of the lucky few that can honestly say I love my job and the team that I work with.”

— Director of Sales, Sunrise of Sandy, UT

“She is devoted to the residents and has a real passion for Sunrise, as evidenced by her daily actions. She visits residents on her days off, often bringing in food or other items they may request. On one occasion, she brought in a lighted, decorated Christmas tree for a resident who didn’t have one. On New Year’s Eve she bought roses for all of the residents and passed them out while giving them all heart-felt hugs.”

— Executive Director’s description of a Lead Care Manager, Brighton Gardens of St. Charles, IL

“As a new team member, I must say how wonderful it is to feel the love, warmth, and camaraderie between the team members. Our hardworking, outstanding, knowledgeable and simply the best executive director is the driving force behind this wonderful team. I am just beaming, and I am excited to be a part of this community.”
