Veola Smith team member profile

Veola Smith

Assisted Living Coordinator

“I have worked for Sunrise Senior Living for 11 years. I love putting a smile on residents’ and family members’ faces. When family members see their loved ones getting the best care, their smile means so much to me.

At Sunrise, I love the feeling of home, working with a good team and caring for seniors.

When I’m not at work, I enjoy spending time with my family and going shopping.”

Sheila Kiani

Activity and Volunteer Coordinator

“I’ve been with Brighton Gardens for 17 years.  When I started here, there were a total of 12 residents.  It was very exciting watching the community grow.  Prior to Sunrise, I worked with both teens and children, but I have found my passion to be seniors.

My favorite part of my job is my daily interactions with the residents and learning from them.  My life has been greatly enriched by getting to know these people who have experienced so much in their lives, both good and bad.

The best part about working for Sunrise is that I believe in our mission, to champion quality of life for all seniors.
In my spare time, I enjoy the theatre, street festivals and fairs, wine festivals, live music and volunteering in the community.”

Robert Kioli team member profile

Robert Kioli

Maintenance Coordinator

“I have worked with Sunrise for 13 years. My favorite part of the job is the residents’ smiles and appreciation. Helping them with something as simple as turning the heat on or up makes my day because I know it means a lot to them.

At Sunrise, there is a homelike feel. Interacting with the residents all day takes me back to the days when I was around my grandparents.

My spare time is spent with my family. I have two boys and we love to ride our bikes. When I’m not with the boys, I enjoy going out with my wife for dinner and sharing some good moments.”

"For my first two years, I worked in the Activities Department, before transitioning into the Business Office. Before working at Sunrise, I was a student at UMBC, studying Management of Aging Services. My favorite part of Sunrise is interacting with residents has always been the best part of working at Brighton Gardens of Columbia. I enjoy stopping in to see residents or having them stop by my office for a chat. Learning about all our individual residents and the things they have experienced is always enjoyable. Toni Haver

Director of Sales

"I started at Brighton Gardens of Columbia as a Concierge welcoming residents, families, team members and guests. I transitioned to Associate Director of Sales where I received training to prepare for my now current role of Director of Sales for Brighton Gardens of Columbia.

Years ago, we made the leap of faith to move my father in law here in assisted living. Through my frequent visits I grew to love the staff, who treated my beloved with such kindness, dignity and patience that it often brought me to tears. Seeing their joy in service inspired me to start a new career path right here at Sunrise. Six years later, I’m still here, surrounded by the same sweet souls who love to take care of our residents.

I love to read, travel and go hiking with my family!"
