"I have been with Sunrise just since March 21, 2019! Prior to joining the team here at Sunrise at River Road, I was with another community in Tucson for 11 years. All told, I have been a Health Care Administrator in the Skilled Rehab & Nursing field for 29 years, and have been an Assisted Living Manager for 13 years, working in a dual capacity in communities which had both health care components.
Since initially visiting Sunrise at River Road as I was considering the position, I have been just totally impressed by the wonderful spirit of engagement that infuses the environment here, in both the team members and the residents. Having the opportunity to visit and serve the residents during the breakfast and dinner hours has allowed me to get to know everyone in a short period of time, besides which it is a lot of fun!
Working, and living, with elders is really a natural extension of my upbringing, as my 3 brothers and I were raised in a household in Winnetka, Illinois headed by my mother and the elders of her family: my Great-Grandmother and my Grandmother. As all of them are gone now, it is a great pleasure to be surrounded by residents whose wit and wisdom enhances each and every day that I am in our community.
I’ve been happily married to my lovely wife, Pam, for 37 years and have 3 sons: Ben, Andy and William. I have a long-standing meditation practice, enjoy reading history and mysteries, watching movies and PBS documentaries – and walking our boxer early each morning."
"The most amazing aspect about being a Healthcare Coordinator with Sunrise is getting to know each resident as an individual and becoming a part of their family. Unfortunately, I was unable to grow up under the watchful eyes of grandma and grandpa never knowing my grandparents from either side of my family.
When I stepped through the doors to Sunrise, I truly felt at home and consider myself one of the luckiest gals in the world to now have so many grandmas and grandpas!
It gives me immeasurable pleasure to care for our residents and to be a part of a team that truly believes in the mission to “Champion the Quality of Life for All Seniors.” I have found my true niche in this world and I can’t imagine being anywhere else!"
"I love working at Sunrise because I am surrounded by grandparents which I no longer personally have. I know what families are going through as I went through it with my beloved grandma, and this is my way of giving back."
Abel is a born leader! He has a way of communicating with his team members that not only gets the work done, but also earns their respect. He has guided his team to success with his strong work ethic and cheerful disposition. Abel's compassion and patience as a lead care manager is to be admired and we are lucky to have him as a member of the Sunrise family!
A note from her supervisor, our Reminiscence Coordinator: “Katrina, is one of the hardest working individuals I know. She is the first person to say ‘I’ll do that’ or ‘I will stay.’ Her passion for what she does is evident in the care she provides our residents and her team. Katrina truly ‘champions quality of life for all seniors.’ It is an honor to serve alongside her."
Amadou has been a part of our Sunrise family since 2008. Amadou started as a care manager, then became a lead care manager, and due to his exemplary leadership skills and his amazing ability to pay attention to the detail, was promoted to a medication care manager. As amazing as Amadou is on the medication care manager side, the most compelling attribute Amadou has is what a few of us refer to as “magic.”
With his caring heart, compassionate demeanor, and brilliant smile he is able to get through to even the most challenging residents. The “Amadou magic” ensures every resident accepts their medication, blood pressure checks, temperature checks, weight checks, blood sugar checks, insulin injections, and much more. Our beautiful little community here at River Road would not be the same without him.
