"I have had the great good fortune to join the team here at Sunrise at River Road this year. I have been a resident of Tucson, Arizona since 1983, an Assisted Living Manager for 13 years, and an Administrator in the Skilled Rehab & Nursing field for 29 years. I served in a dual capacity in communities in town which had both health care components.
From my very first visit to this community, I have been impressed by the wonderful spirit of engagement that infuses the environment here, in both the team members and the residents. This spirit creates a peaceful space which draws you in and makes you smile. It is tangible proof that the Sunrise Foundational belief in the sacred value of human life is absolutely alive and well here in Sunrise at River Road.
Every morning that I have the honor of walking through the front doors of this community, and am greeted by this family of residents and team members, it renews my faith in the importance of the service that we have the opportunity to offer each day. Having been raised with my three brothers by three strong and loving women (our mother, grandmother and great-grandmother), I realize the great value of working together in order to provide a caring home. Everyone pitches in to do whatever is necessary, regardless of “position”.
I would be remiss in this introduction if I did not acknowledge the blessings that round out my life. I’ve been happily married to my hard working (Librarian) spouse, Pam, for 37 years and have three talented sons: Ben, Andy and William. I have a long-standing meditation practice, enjoy reading history and mysteries, watching movies and PBS documentaries – and walking our boxer, Buck, early each morning."
"I have been at Sunrise for two years but have been working in Assisted Living sales for 11 years. I started in this field when I was looking for a community for my parents and soon realized that Assisted Living is where I wanted to work. Having the ability to work with families in their time of need and to help future residents find their new home brings me so much joy! I really love the team spirit and culture that Sunrise promotes which allows me to work with a caring group of like-minded, dedicated individuals. And, when I am not enjoying myself with my team members at work, I truly enjoy spending time with family and traveling to anywhere with a beach."
"I had the opportunity to join Sunrise almost a year and a half ago. Prior to coming to Sunrise, I worked for Banner and Tenet Hospitals for seven years.
Having a positive influence in someone’s life, whether it is giving care or taking a moment to learn about someone’s story and adventures has been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I get to come to work every day knowing what we do makes a difference.
The loving and caring atmosphere that is provided by the interactions between residents and team members every day is something I love being a part of. It is not a job - your residents and co-workers become part of your family and it makes me proud to be a part of theirs.
I am a new grandfather and am very devoted to my family; we like to take trips to new locations such as the beach or the mountains. Spending time with my family and chasing new experiences is what makes me happy. If life has taught me anything it is that memories are what matter the most."
"I started with Sunrise as a Care Manager in 2010 and took on the role of the Reminiscence Coordinator in 3 years later. My favorite part of this job is spending time with the residents and making a difference in their daily lives. I like the feeling of being able to do good deeds for others and this position allows me to experience that. I also enjoy teaching my team members about how to help residents living with dementia.
The best part of working at Sunrise at River Road is working with a team that has the same passion as I do in caring for the residents we serve. There is also a great reward in helping a resident to have a good day.
In my spare time, I like to exercise, read, eat, spend time with my spouse and do volunteer work teaching others about the Bible."
"I have been with Sunrise at River Road for 11 years. I didn’t grow up with any grandparents, so being able to spend time with the residents who are my “second family”, as well as ensuring they receive the care they deserve while maintaining their quality of life is what fulfills me and brings me joy in my job.
The residents and our team here at Sunrise at River Road are truly the best! We are a little gem in the desert, and there’s a special feeling you get when you walk through the front door. I can’t imagine working anywhere else.
In my spare time I enjoy taking long, invigorating walks early in the morning and spending time with my husband and brand-new baby!"
"I have been an Activities Director /Coordinator for about 11 years and have been with Sunrise now for almost two years. I really enjoy bringing smiles and laughter to enlighten each resident’s day. There is also great satisfaction in building strong relationships with residents who then become interested in joining activities and events in the community. I also get much satisfaction out of having fun with our leadership team and getting them involved with community events.
Sunrise as a company is very respectful and appreciative of all team members and coordinators, which is one reason it is such a great place to work.
When I do get some spare time, I love to knit, which one of our residents here at River Road taught me this year. And, of course, I love spending time with my family when we go on vacations together. At the end of the day I feel blessed if I have been of some help to someone who could use a little boost of enjoyment in their day."
"I have been with Sunrise for 10 years and love being surrounded by residents throughout my day. I really enjoy being part of a team serving others. Having lost my grandparents not long ago, and being involved in their journey, I know what families are going through. I consider my career at Sunrise to be one small way that I can honor their memory and give back the love and attention they gave me to our residents at River Road.
When I am at home, I really enjoy reading books and being involved in a Boston Terrier dog rescue group. It is such a pleasure to match up our rescues with a new family and see the happiness it brings!"
"It has been my good fortune to serve at Sunrise at River Road for the last 10 years. Previously I was the Chef for 7 years in another local Assisted Living community, and the Chef for 15 years in Resorts and Hotels. Currently, while my main role is as the Dining Services Coordinator at River Road, I am also responsible for all Sunrise communities in Arizona as the Dining Services Lead Trainer. I really enjoy cooking for everyone, training new team members and making our residents happy. I have a real passion for being in the kitchen and am dedicated to creating the most delicious meals possible. In my off-working hours I like tooling around in my yard gardening, as well as helping with the animals at our local shelter."
