Executive Director

“I have worked with Sunrise for 17 years.  I became a licensed nursing home administrator in 1992. I got my start in healthcare as a housekeeping supervisor and then proceeded to enter an administrator in training program. I have been working in healthcare ever since.

My favorite part of my job is spending time talking to residents and seeing the joy it brings to them.  It makes me feel good when I make a difference in a resident’s life

Making lasting relationships with residents, families, and team members by having the time to engage with them and get to know them as the person/individual they are.

I love to spend time with my wife boating on the Chesapeake Bay and spending time outdoors in the mountains."

"I have had the pleasure of working for Sunrise for almost three years. My favorite part about my job is getting to know each of our residents personally and finding about their exciting life adventures.

 The best part about working at Sunrise is helping families get their loved ones moved into a beautiful, vibrant, and safe community. 

In my free time I like spending time with my wife and children, attending my weekly men’s dinner that has been happening for 20 years. Hanging out with our dog (Hazel) and two cats (Wilbur and Chimes).

"I started at Sunrise in February of 2013. Prior to Sunrise, I worked in the Emergency Room for 13 years at Howard County General, and as a Kidney Transplant Coordinator in the years prior.

My favorite part of my job is being a resident advocate as well as supporting and educating residents and their families. Nursing is a profession that keeps on giving!

the best part about working at Sunrise is the team approach, and Sunrise of Columbia defines it. I always say, it takes a team!

During my spare time I volunteer with the Appalachian Service Project and Rebuilding Together. I also love spending time with my family and friends, hiking, and traveling."

"I have worked at Sunrise for 16 years. Prior to becoming the Assisted Living Coordinator, I was a lead care manager in our reminiscence neighborhood.

My favorite part of my job is making a difference in our residents’ lives and reaching the ones with challenging behaviors.

Reminiscence Coordinator

“I was born in Liberia, West Africa. I am a Certified Validation Group Practitioner and a certified dementia care trainer. I have worked for Sunrise for 20 years, starting as a care manager. I was promoted to the Reminiscence Coordinator position two years after I started in November of 1999.

My favorite part of my job is engaging with residents and family members.  Being able to call a family and have a conversation about how well their loved one is adjusting.

Sunrise’s core values, the mission statement, and best practice values that Sunrise places on employees.

When I’m not at work, I love to entertain people, love to cook and entertain with family and friends.  Sometimes I love to be in a very quiet place and have my time alone.

“I have been at Sunrise of Columbia since April 2, 1999.  Previously, I taught middle school in Carroll County. 

I love that I get to do a first-day training with all of the new employees because I get to spend time with our new team members before they actually start working. The best part of working at Sunrise is meeting so many people from the Howard County community. I am always amazed how our residents, who have daily challenges, have found ways to be happy with their lives as they age. 

When I’m not at work, I am always happy spending time with my seven grandchildren and their parents.  When I’m at Bethany Beach by the ocean, life is good.”

“I began my career with Sunrise Senior Living in February of 2006.  Overall. I’ve been in the food industry for 40 years, 25 of which have been spent working with seniors. 

I can honestly say that cooking is my passion. When I prepare meals for our residents, my favorite Principles of Service are Enabling Choice and Nurturing the Spirit. It’s always a pleasure to see others smile. Not only do I love to cook, I enjoy caring for seniors as well. 

Aside from cooking, I enjoy playing a good game of basketball and jogging.”
