Meet some of the members of our team here at Sunrise of Plano, TX.

Stephen MacDonald—Team Member since 2013Stephen MacDonald

Executive Director

As the Executive Director of Sunrise of Plano, Stephen enjoys being able to interact with the residents and his fellow team members each day. He relishes the opportunity to meet people and learn about the amazing lives they’ve lived.

When he’s not at work, Stephen enjoys spending time with his family.

Kristi Valdez—Team Member since 2011Kristi Valdez

Director of Sales

Kristi says the best part of her job is seeing what an improved quality of life both the residents and their families have once their loved one is settled into Sunrise. 

She says, "I love working with such a wonderful group of people that all share the same passion for helping seniors and their families. The Principles of Service are what has allowed Sunrise to be the leader in senior living for more than 35 years."

Kristi spends her time outside of work with her husband and daughter. In fact, Kristi's daughter loves spending time visiting with and helping the residents at Sunrise!

Sharon Demarest—Team Member since 2012Sharon Dermarest

Director of Sales

Sharon began working at Sunrise as an activities & volunteer coordinator in 2012, two years later was promoted to associate executive director, and then transitioned to the director of sales role in 2015.

Prior to her career at Sunrise, Sharon was an avid community volunteer; in fact, it was philanthropy work with her daughter that served as an intro to Sunrise and helped foster a true passion for working with seniors!

As a consummate people person, Sharon absolutely loves serving all of the families that walk through our doors. She says, "nothing brings me greater joy than helping families find the best solution to their senior living needs. My heart is full when I see our new residents happy and thriving and witness tears of joy from their families!"

Outside of work, Sharon loves to travel, exercise, spend precious time with family, work in her garden, and create various works of art.

James Washington—Team Member since 2018

James Washington

Associate Executive Director

James started at Sunrise in March of 2018. His background is in sales and marketing and he was also a Caregiver for about 7 years. His favorite part of the job is working with residents and providing the with great customer experiences. The best part of working at Sunrise is the day to day interaction with residents and Team Members. In his spare time, he enjoys traveling out of the country and relaxing on the beach.

Destinee Madison—Team Member since 2005Destinee Madison

Reminiscence Coordinator

Destinee is our Reminiscence Coordinator and she is a wonderful addition to our team at Sunrise.  

She started her career with us as the Assisted Living Coordinator and now her current position of Reminiscence Coordinator. Destinee loves spending time with the residents and their families and says that she loves working at Sunrise because it’s a family.  

When Destinee is not working, she likes to spend time with her kids and shop.

Sophia Musopelo

Health Care Manager

Sophia has worked for Sunrise since 2009, prior to that she worked as a medication care manager for skilled nursing facility "The Legacy at Willow Bend" in Plano. Her favorite part of the job is when she can make the residents and families happy. It gives her a sense of purpose knowing that what she does makes a positive impact on someone else’s life. It makes her love her job even more and go above and beyond.

Sophia loves to spend every spare moment she has with family.

She also reads different books, cooks, watches movies, and does a bit of exercise.

Assisted Living Coordinator

I have passion for working with seniors and since starting in this role in February 2018, my passion has grown and the enjoyment of being with seniors is immeasurable.  My favorite part of the job is spending time with the residents. Knowing that I am impacting someone’s life, in a positive way, is the most rewarding part of working at Sunrise. I’m able to help residents and team members focus on making the best of each moment. 

In my spare time I enjoy reading, writing and exploring wineries and vineyards.

Business Office Coordinator

I have worked for Sunrise of Plano since 2006 and I had 12 prior years of office management and accounting experience. My favorite part of my job is our amazing residents! The best part of working at Sunrise is getting to know our residents, their history, and their families. 

In my spare time I enjoy reading, watching movies, and spending time with family.

Activities and Volunteer Coordinator

I have worked for Sunrise since 2015.  I started at Sunrise of Gurnee in Illinois as a Lead Care Manager and Life Enrichment Manager, then transferred to Sunrise of Park Ridge where I was an Activities Assistant and Concierge.  In July 2017 I started as the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator here at Sunrise of Plano. My favorite part of my job is how much I get to learn from the residents.  They each have a unique story that shapes who they are and they have experienced so much of history.  I love sitting with them and learning about their lives and what they have seen and done.

The best part of Sunrise is that it feels like a family, both with the residents and team members.  I have an easy job because I get to come to work every day and spend time with the people I love.

In my free time I like to play board games and try all the good food in Dallas.

Dining Services Coordinator

I have worked for Sunrise since 2013, and in the past I owned restaurants. My favorite part of my job is interacting with the residents. The best part about working at Sunrise is the amazing team.

In my spare time I enjoy watching basketball.

John Erlandson—Team Member since 2010

John Erlandson

Director of Environmental Services

I have worked for Sunrise since 2010. I previously worked for Marriott with similar responsibilities. My favorite part of my job is all of the residents.The best part about Sunrise is all the smiling residents.

In my spare time I enjoy working out at the gym and relaxing in solitude.
