Meet some of the members of our team here at Sunrise at Fair Oaks, Virginia.

Syvia ChonyaSylvia Chonya

Executive Director

"My passion for working with the Geriatric population has kept me working in this field for over 16 years. It does not feel like a job for me, but rather providing care to an extension of my family.

I’m a registered nurse by training and graduated from George Mason University with a Bachelor’s of Science in nursing degree. I also hold a Master’s degree in Public Health, from the George Washington University in DC. I enjoy travelling in my spare time."

grace strotherGrace Strother

Director of Sales

"Prior to working at Sunrise, I have 14 years experience in new home sales (this is different from being a realtor). I was a sales manager with CSP (Certified Sales Professional) designation – and have worked a good number of years serving the 55+ clientele. I came to Sunrise to pursue a role that will allow me to focus my efforts on serving the seniors who are near and dear to me and work on bringing forth a positive impact in the lives of people I meet each day.

My favorite part of my job are the team members I work with and the senior residents we serve. What drew me to this company is the Sunrise story- how it was founded with the purpose of championing quality of life for the very people it serves. That is very important to me.

I love to travel with my husband and children. I love seeing the world and we have traveled to 16 countries in the last 5 years! I also do ballroom dance and enjoy competing!"

Lisa McGaryLisa McGary

Activities and Volunteer Coordinator

"I started my career at Sunrise of Hunter Mill as a family member. My mother was a resident in the Reminiscence neighborhood for 6 years. After my mother passed, I volunteered, bringing craft projects, dancing and storytelling to residents at Hunter Mill. After a very short time, I decided to change careers. I wanted to provide residents and families with the peace of mind I had experienced at Sunrise at Hunter Mill. I wanted families to know that their loved ones were engaged with activities that nurture the mind, body and spirit. Fifteen years later, I am still dancing, storytelling and loving every minute as an Activity and Volunteer Coordinator at Sunrise at Fair Oaks."

Vanessa Carter

Reminiscence Coordinator

Vanessa has also been with Sunrise at Fair Oaks since 2001, starting out as a care manager and working up to her current position as Reminiscence Coordinator.  She enjoys visiting with residents and families and supporting her tenured team of care managers.  In her free time she enjoys spending time with family, including her new granddaughter.

nick cattanNick Cattan

Maintenance Coordinator

"I have worked at Sunrise for 5 months. I come from the Apartment Housing field, although mechanically is the same, the rest of the structure is different. My favorite part of working is getting the job done. What first appealed is that is very close to my own home, the one I discovered was the possibility of making our residents happy and be part of their lives.

During my spare time, I like to work in my cars, I am an amateur mechanic and like every bit of it."

JoyJoy Qu

Resident Care Director

Joy has been with Sunrise for over 4 years.  She was a wound care specialist prior to her RCD position with Sunrise.  Joy brings her clinical knowledge to Sunrise to best serve our residents.  Joy’s favorite part of working at Sunrise is getting to know the residents and their families.  In her spare time she enjoys spending time with her cats, Alpha Beta and Sigma.  She also enjoys time with her family and friends.  Joy likes to swim and exercise for a healthy lifestyle.
