"Although I have only been in the Senior industry for the last few years, my affinity for Seniors goes back to my childhood when I would I volunteer at our local nursing home. I knew one day I would be involved with Seniors in one way, shape or form.
I come from a small town in Brantley County, GA, served in the US Army where I met my husband of 14 years. We have four of our own children and an exchange student from Germany. I love spending time with my family and when I have down time I like to sew dresses for my only daughter."
"I begin my career with Sunrise at Mt. Vernon in June of 2015 and I currently work as the Director of Sales. Every day, I enjoy helping seniors and their families make the transition from their home to Sunrise. I am an enthusiastic, caring, and resourceful advocate for older adults and their caregivers. I have been in the senior industry for over 10 years and previously worked for Home Instead Senior Care in Annandale, as their Recruitment and Retention Coordinator.
I relocated to the Washington DC area in 1989 as a family nanny, and then worked for 11 years in the Nanny industry as the Director of Placement for a local Nanny agency. I’m originally from the Chicago area and now live in Springfield, VA with my three teenage children."
"I have been with Sunrise at Mt. Vernon since June of 2017. I started my nursing career in 1998 at Greater Baltimore Medical Center in the Women’s Surgical Center while also working with Seniors in a Long Term Care Facility.
One of the best things about my job is my daily interactions with our residents and the team I work with. There is always something new every day. I was born and raised in Baltimore and love anything that has to do with the Baltimore Ravens. Currently I live in Bowie, MD and in my spare time I enjoy spending time with my husband Leroy…watching the Baltimore Ravens!"
I joined at Sunrise at Mount Vernon in December of 2018 as the Assisted Living Coordinator. In my role, I lead our team of Care Managers and oversee all aspects of care provided to residents in Assisted Living. I have a heart for seniors and enjoy connecting with residents and their family members. I am passionate about preserving residents’ dignity and celebrating their individuality.
Originally from Lancaster, PA, I, graduated from James Madison University with a degree in Health Services Administration and recently received my certification as a licensed Nursing Home Administrator. I completed internships with the Lancaster County Office of Aging, Bridgewater Retirement Community, and the Valley Program for Aging Services. In my free time, I enjoy spending time with my girlfriend and being an active member of the Lion’s Club.
"I have served as the Reminiscence Coordinator at Sunrise at Mt. Vernon since 2009. Prior to joining Sunrise, I was a support counselor for the Federation of Multicultural Programs in NJ, where I worked to plan, organize and implement activities, based on the needs of our customers. I attended Mercer County College in NJ and received my major in Liberal Arts and Science. In addition, I am a Licensed Practical Nurse.
I enjoy making a difference in the lives of our residents. Caring for them daily, protecting their dignity and helping them to regain a sense of purpose, is what drives me. Our residents inspire me everyday. The feeling I get from interacting with them and bringing a smile to their face is my second paycheck. I am proud and honored to be part of the team at Sunrise of Mt. Vernon."
"I joined Sunrise as a Life Enrichment Manager in January of 2018. In October, of the same year, I moved to the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator position. Everyday, I am committed to providing residents with a sense of purpose and giving them something to look forward to, whether it is a lunch outing, an art project or an exercise class!
I was born and raised in Alexandria, Virginia and attended TC Williams High School. After attending college in Wisconsin, I move back to Northern VA. In my free time, I enjoy coaching field hockey at my alma mater."
"I have been with Sunrise since August of 2016. Before Sunrise, I had experience in working as the Admissions Assistant at a local Nursing Home in Alexandria, VA. I also had the pleasure of working as a Community Liaison for a local Homecare Agency in Alexandria. I find that through all of my many professions that I genuinely enjoy helping and working with people.
My favorite part of my job is being able to share moments and memories with our residents and their family members. It is a great honor to be part of this big family and work together to champion quality life for all our residents!
In my free time, I enjoy cooking, being outdoors, watching movies, and just spending quality time with my family."
“Two years ago, I followed my heart right through the front door of Sunrise at Mount Vernon, simply seeking opportunities ‘to give back’ in my community. I instantly felt I was home. The warm, welcoming environment, the friendly staff and the beautiful residents I met that day were truly inspirational. I knew I was meant to be here.
With a degree in education, 30 years out in the business world and a lifetime of joy helping my own parents progress through their aging, I knew I could offer stimulating and purposeful activities to our residents and daily support to our team and family members. I am inspired every day by the beautiful people who surround me, and I’m incredibly proud to be a part of the Sunrise family.”
“I have worked with Sunrise since 2013. I moved to Virginia from the Philadelphia area to take care of my youngest grandchild. After he started school, I decided to return to work. I begin my career at Sunrise at George Mason as a part time concierge. After a month in this role, I was promoted to my current position. I love every aspect of my job, especially getting to know the residents and family members. I enjoy coming to work each day and spending time with my Sunrise at Mt. Vernon family.”
"I begin my career with Sunrise four years ago while volunteering with "Pause for Pets" with my dog, Olive. When a position opened up for a Life Enrichment Manager, I knew it was a perfect fit. I had grown to love the residents in the Memory Care Neighborhood. In my role, I find out what brings our residents joy and we make it happen. I organize lunch and dinner outings, picnics, baking clubs, plant gardens and harvest fresh tomato and basil to make homemade bruschetta. My 27 years in the restaurant business is being put to good use! I’ve even taken residents to Reagan National Airport to watch planes directly overhead, as they come in to land. I truly believe I have the best job of all, at Sunrise at Mt. Vernon!"
