Sunrise of Frederick

Moving our 90-year-old mom into an assisted living was a tough but necessary decision. After looking at a few, Sunrise stood at the top of the list. It's now been 6 months & friends ask how it's going. My response: "Better than I ever hoped or expected". The level of care & kindness for not only mom, but the whole family has been amazing! Mom is safe, (she has dementia so this was very important), happy, healthy & all of her needs are met! When I leave after a visit, there is no sense of dread, that she won't be well cared for. As difficult as the placement decision is, Sunrise has been the perfect facility for my mom & our family.

I definitely would recommend Sunrise is a warm, caring community with the right staff for my mom's needs. Other places here had her in memory care to get the appropriate staffing level.

I think it's a great place! The staff is wonderful. It's expensive but worth it compared to other places.

We chose Sunrise of Frederick because of the cleanliness of the overall facility as well as the up-beat atmosphere. All of the staff truly seems to care about the residents. They are very responsive to any questions or concerns you may have.

Sunrise of Frederick was a 10 out of 10 for our family. Sadly, my father passed away after a short three-month stay, but I couldn't have picked a better place for Dad to spend his final days. First, the care team, coordinated by Jude, was excellent. The care team treated Dad like family. They were friendly, caring, and supportive of our family, never showing any negativity or irritation when performing tasks that certainly were unpleasant at best. Dad loved joking with them and they certainly liked to tease him about all his new girlfriends. Thank you specifically to Zebib, Kidist, Germaine, and Rebecca. These care members were lovely and present most often during our visits (which were three to five days a week). Second, administrative staff--Brenda, Katrice, Nicole, Caroline, and Susan--were always willing to answer questions. Brenda has created a family atmosphere that extends well beyond the care team. I had payment questions early on, which were answered quickly by Katrice and Nicole. Caroline worked tirelessly to get Dad involved in Sunrise activities. Susan listened to Dad's dietary needs. And even receptionists--Nancy, Sakeena, and Lisa--greeted me like a sister when entering each day. Thank you also to Brad for handling maintenance requests in a timely manner. This truly is a love letter to the family we didn't know we'd need, but are forever grateful that Dad had. We love you, Sunrise of Frederick!

Mom moved to Sunrise of Frederick after Dad died. I think she felt comfortable there and it was a good fit. I think that staff were caring. Mom was wheelchair-bound, and providing transportation to doctor appointments was a valued benefit. Brad provided fabulous transportation and logistical care for Mom. Activities were inconsistent. Mom complained that she went to activities and was the only one there. Shortly before Mom died, I took a bunch of roses from AARP to distribute at a planned Valentines day event, and waited for about 45 minutes after the advertised event, and nothing happened. Residents gathered and waited for an event that never seemed to occur. Many staff members are foreign-born and Mom had a hard time understanding their accents. Communications concerning Mom's care, transportation, and finances were spotty. Sometimes I would send an email providing or asking for information and had to repeat communications to get a response. Ultimately, I was able to get the information I needed. I just wish that it didn't take so much effort on my part. There were also lack of clear information about vaccinations provided at Sunrise of Frederick. Overall, I liked this facility and thought it was a good fit for Mom. I wish that they valued family too.
