Meet some of the exemplary members of our team here at Sunrise of Springfield, VA.
“I truly believe that I work with the best company in assisted living. I have grown through the ranks, starting my career at Sunrise as a concierge, and holding several other coordinator positions over the last ten years. After completing our Executive Director in Training Program, I earned my Assisted Living Administrators License and have been an Executive Director since 2017. I share this story because it is one of the reasons I love working for Sunrise. – The opportunity for growth. One of my passions is helping team members to realize their dreams and growing within Sunrise!
The other reason I love working for Sunrise is that “second paycheck”…the honor of getting to know and help care for all the residents that we interact with on a daily basis. Our mission is
To Champion the Quality of Life for ALL Seniors”, and I am so proud of the compassionate care that the team here at Sunrise of Springfield gives each and every resident. It is my pleasure to have the opportunity to be a part of this team!
In my spare time, I enjoy cooking and spending time with my two beautiful daughters.”
“I realized my fulfillment in helping seniors when I was the main care provider for my mom, who was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS) and my dad, who was diagnosed with dementia. During those trying months, I made it my mission to keep their spirits high and sense of self intact. The time spent with them helped guide me to join the Sunrise of Springfield team and help others enjoy their golden years, which grew to be my passion.
I joined the team in 2004 ready to embark on a journey to help encourage independence and freedom of choice for our residents. The joy this brought me on a daily basis assisted in my growth with the company. It has become my goal to ‘champion the quality of life for all seniors."
"I am the Resident Care Director here at Sunrise of Springfield. I began my career with Sunrise in 2017, as a Wellness Nurse. I have been in nursing for 10 years, and am so honored to share my talents, in this way. One of the best parts about being a Nurse is getting to work with diverse groups of people. It is my passion to serve residents and educate them regarding their health related issues. I love building collaborative relationships that improve continuity of care with our residents and their families, my fellow coordinators, doctors, nurses and care professionals. They say – “You must have a big heart to serve seniors,” - my heart is full! There is no greater feeling of gratitude and satisfaction than when I am serving others.
In my free time, I enjoy going for walks with my family and our dog, listening to music, dinner outings and shopping with my daughters, who are my best friends."
"I began my career with Sunrise in 2011 as a medication technician. It did not take me long to realize that working with seniors is what I want to do, for the rest of my career. While working at Sunrise, I earned my LPN license and became a full time Wellness Nurse.
This summer, I was promoted to Reminiscence Coordinator. I am so excited to embark on this new journey with the residents, in our memory care neighborhood. Throughout my career with Sunrise, I have gained a wealth of knowledge and experience, which I bring to this new role. Being able to utilize my nursing skills is an added bonus. Everyday, I strive to preserve the dignity of my residents and help bring joy to their days! I love working with the team here at Sunrise of Springfield and making a difference in the lives of those we serve."
Melanie has worked in the senior living industry for 20 years. The origin of working with older adults probably goes back to performing in ballet recitals in nursing homes at the age of 10. As a professional, she first started as a physical therapist assistant in geriatric rehabilitation, and soon after, earned her Nursing Home Administrators License. She gained great experience as part of an interdisciplinary team for both skilled nursing and assisted living. Melanie first came to Sunrise in 2003 as an assisted living coordinator, and transitioned to the marketing and sales role in 2006. She enjoys meeting families and guiding them toward a solution for their loved one. She thinks of herself as an advocate for older adults and a “family director,” when it comes to the transitions experienced by the older adult and the family.
In her free time, Melanie loves to sing, play guitar, practice yoga, and spend time with her family.
"I began my career at Sunrise of Springfield in 2014 as a Sales Assistant. In 2015, I was promoted to Director of Sales. During this time, I was honored to receive the company’s Horizon Award, for occupancy, for four consecutive quarters. In 2018, with my career in sales, at its peak, I was presented with an opportunity to transition to Human Resources, where I had spent 20 years, prior to joining Sunrise. I accepted the position of Business Office Coordinator, where my gifts and talents are now used to build productive relationships with residents and families, inspire employee engagement, and help promote a positive community culture.
I studied Business Administration at Strayer University in Washington, DC.
In my spare time, I enjoy singing, dancing, worshiping, and spending time with my husband and four children."
"I am the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator (AVC) at Sunrise of Springfield. Before becoming the AVC, I was a Senior Liaison in the political arena. In this role, it because apparent that my passion for seniors, totally outweighed my passion for politics. After exiting the political arena, I found the perfect opportunity at Sunrise of Springfield. This role allows me to do what I love most, bring joy and happiness to senior’s everyday.
I graduated Shepherd University with a Bachelor’s of Science degree. When I am not with my residents, I enjoy spending time with my family, traveling, and creating YouTube videos."
